MATERIALS REQUIRED:
3 ply baby yarn—4 balls pink—2 balls white—afghan hook No. 7—4 yds.—½” ribbon.

JACKET
WITH WHITE—starting at bottom of back yoke—ch 54—ROW 1—Draw up a loop in each ch—leaving all loops on hook—then take off loops as follows—yo hook—draw through 1 loop—*yo hook draw through 2 loops—repeat from *across row (Plain afghan st.)
ROW 2—Draw up a loop through each of the upright sts of row 1—and take loops off as for row 1—Repeat row 2—12 more times making 14 rows of plain afghan.
RIGHT SHOULDER—Pick up the first 17 st—and con­tinue for 10 rows.
RIGHT FRONT—Pick up the 17 sts of shoulder and add 10 sts by twisting the yarn over hook. Continue for 14 rows—then 1 row of sc picking up the upright sts of last row. BREAK YARN.
LEFT SHOULDER—Leaving 18 sts of row 14 for the neck—pick up the remaining 18 sts and continue for 10 rows—then ch 10.
LEFT FRONT—Pick up the 10 sts of ch and the 18 sts of shoulder and make the left front the same as right. BREAK YARN.
RIGHT SLEEVE—with pink—working across right shoulder—draw up loop through first st—*then bringing yarn in front of hook and holding it with thumb—insert hook through the next upright st—yarn around hook and draw up a loop—draw loop through the next upright st—repeat from* across row. (Smocked afghan).
ROW 2—Draw loop thru 2nd upright st of row 1—*yarn in front of hook—insert hook thru next upright st—yarn around hook and draw up a loop—draw loop thru next upright—repeat from *across row—thus reversing the sts of each row producing a smocked or honeycomb effect. Continue in this pattern until sleeve measures 6". BREAK YARN.
CUFF—WITH WHITE—sc thru the upright sts of sleeve—skipping every third st. Then with pink make 4 rows of plain afghan and 1 row of sc—Turn to wrong side and seam sleeve with sc.
LEFT SLEEVE—same as right.
BODY—WITH PINK—starting at left front sc across entire body—ch 4—turn—*skip 1 sc—dc in next—ch 1—repeat from *across row—ch 1—turn—sc in each dc and sc under each ch 1 across row. (Beading) BREAK YARN.
Starting at left front work in smocked afghan for 6 inches—then 1 row of so—BREAK YARN. With pink- make beading around neck the same as around the waist.
Edge the entire jacket and sleeves with white as follows:
Starting at left bottom—sc—draw up loop in same st as sc—*skip 1 st—draw loop thru next sc—yarn over and thru all 3 loops on hook—ch 3—draw loop thru same st as previous loop—repeat from* except ch 1—instead of ch 3—up the fronts of jacket.

BONNET
CROWN—WITH PINK—ch 3 and join in ring.
1ST RND—6 sc in ring.
2ND RND—2 sc in each sc of previous rnd (do not join rounds.)
3RD RND*1 sc in 1st sc—2 sc in next—continue from* around. Repeat the rounds making 6 increases in each round until there are 11 sc between each increase or 78 sc. Then make 5 rounds without increasing.
FRONT—Leaving one section of crown for back work in plain afghan st over remaining stitches for 10 rows—then 1 row of sc—turn.
TURN BACK—Picking up only the back stitches of the sc—make 4 rows of smocked afghan—then with white—1 row of sc.
RUFFLE—Pink—ch 3—sc in next (drawing the sts as high as the ch 3)—*2 sc in next—1 sc in next—repeat from* across row.
NECK EDGE—ROW 1—sc across neck skipping 1 st at each corner of the crown—and 1 st at center back.
ROW 2—same as row 1—Edge the ruffle the same as jacket—and around the face—the same as front edges of jacket.

BOOTIES
WITH PINK—ch 28—Make 10 rows of plain afghan—1 row of sc in white—4 rows of smocked afghan—in pink—1 row of sc—turn to wrong side and seam with sc.
TOE WHITE—Work 8 rows of 7 afghan st each across center of ankle.
FOOT—PINK—Begin foot in center back and work 8 rows of sc—increasing 2 st in the first row in each front corner of toe piece—and decreasing 1 st in center front and back in last two rows—turn to wrong side and seam with sc—picking up only the back single sts of the sc.
Edge the top of bootie with white the same as for jacket.
