Materials Required—AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" or "GEM" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Size 30

1–150 Yd. Ball White or Colors.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 11 or 12.

Each Motif measures about 2½ inches at the widest point. Doily measures about 8 inches through the center.

Motif. Ch 12, join, ch 1, 24 s c in ring, join.

2nd Row. Ch 3, * thread over hook, insert in same space and draw up the length of a d c, repeat from * and draw thread through all loops but one, thread over and draw through 2 loops. ** Ch 5, sl st in 4th st for picot, ch 1, thread over hook, skip 1 s c, insert hook in next s c and draw up the length of a d c, * thread over, insert in same space and draw up the length of a d c, repeat from *, thread over, draw through all but 2 loops, thread over and draw through 2 loops, repeat from ** all around (12 rice sts and 12 picot loops).

3rd Row. Ch 9, sl st into next rice st, repeat from beginning all around.

4th Row. Sl st to 3rd st of ch, ch 3, 1 rice st over loop, * ch 3, rice st over same loop, repeat from * twice, * ch 3, s c in next loop, ch 3, 4 rice sts with ch 3 between in next loop, repeat from * all around. (6 groups of rice sts.)

5th Row. Sl st to center of loop, * ch 5, sl st into next loop, repeat from * all around.

6th Row. Sl st to center of loop ** ch 3, 2 d c in first st of ch, ch 3, 2 d c in first st of ch, s c into next loop, * ch 3, 2 d c in first st of ch, s c into next loop, repeat from * 3 times and repeat from ** all around.

Second Motif. Join in the last row at corners as follows: work 1 petal, ch 3, sl st between petals of 1st motif, ch 3, sl st into st of 1st ch, work a petal and complete motif. The following motifs join at 3 corners in same manner forming a triangle between motifs.

Small Joining Motif. Ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 3, 1 rice st into ring, * ch 4, sl st between 2 center petals on side of motif, ch 4, rice st over ring, ch 9, sl st into 5th st for picot, ch 2, sl st in center st of joining ch between motifs, ch 2, sl st to picot just made, ch 5, sl st in same space for picot, ch 4, rice st over ring, repeat from * all around, ending with ch 4 and join to 1st rice st.
