Make hairpin lace for desired length. Fasten off. Attach thread to 1st loop; insert hook through 1st 4 loops and (keeping twist of loops throughout) * make an s c through all 4 loops at once, ch 4, insert hook through next 4 loops and repeat from * across. Fasten off. Attach thread at loops on opposite side and work 1st row to correspond with previous side. Do not fasten off. Ch 4 (to count as tr), turn. 2nd row: 2 tr in s c, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; * thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 tightly (3-tr cluster), ch 2; make 3 tr in same s c, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook. Repeat from * until 3 clusters are made. ** Skip ch-4, in next s c make three 3-tr clusters separated by ch-2. Repeat from ** across. Fasten off. 3rd row: Attach thread to 1st cluster made, * ch 3, in tip of next (center) cluster make d c, ch 5 and d c; ch 3, s c between next 2 clusters. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.
