Woven Sandals Pattern

Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" COTTON YARN, Article 75
2-100 yd. Skeins Black.
1-100 yd. Skein Red.
1 Pr. Inner Soles.
Steel Crochet Hook #00.

With Black work 4 soles same as slipper #4703.

Place inner sole between the 2 sections and with Red overcast the sections together, picking up 1 loop of st.

Small and medium size are worked in same manner. Large size is given in parenthesis.

UPPER SECTION—With Black, ch 16, d c in 6th st from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, d c in next st, repeat from *, ch 3, d c in same st, * ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, d c in next st, repeat from * twice, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row—S c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next d c, repeat from * twice, ch 1, s c in center st of ch 3 loop, ch 1, s c in next d c, repeat from * twice, ch 1, skip 1 st of end ch, s c in next st, break yarn and pick up Red, (when changing Color, always complete the last half of st with next Color.)

3rd Row—Ch 3, d c in next s c, * ch 1, d c in next s c, repeat from * twice, ch 3, d c in same space, * ch 1, d c in next d c, repeat from * 3 times, turn.

4th Row—Ch 1, s c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next d c, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, s c in center st of ch 3 loop, * ch 1, s c in next d c, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, skip 1 st of end ch, s c in next st, ch 3, turn.

5th Row—Work in same manner as 3rd row, break yarn and pick up Black.

6th Row—Work in same manner as 4th row omitting ch at end of row, break yarn and pick up Red.

7th Row—Ch 1, s c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * across row ending row with ch 1, skip 1 st of end ch, s c in next st, turn, break yarn and pick up Black.

8th Row—Work in same manner as 7th row, break yarn and * pick up Red.

9th, 10th & 11th Rows—Work in same manner as 3rd, 4th and 5th rows, break yarn and pick up Black.

12th & 13th Rows—Work in same manner as 4th and 3rd rows, break yarn and pick up Red. (Repeat the 12th and 13th rows.)

14th Row—Ch 1, sl st in next s c, repeat from * 7 times, ch 1, sl st in center st of ch 3 loop, ch 1, sl st in next s c, repeat from * to end of row, break yarn.

The pattern is darned in working 3 rows through each d c mesh and 1 row through each s c mesh.

In d c meshes work 1st row over 1 d c and under the next d c reversing the over and under in 2nd row.

Starting at narrow end, darn 3 rows Black in d c meshes, 1 row Red in s c meshes, 3 rows Red in d c meshes, 1 row Black in s c meshes, 3 rows Red in d c meshes, skip the next 3 rows of s c meshes, 3 rows Red in d c meshes, 1 row Black in s c meshes, 3 rows Red in d c meshes, 1 row Red in s c meshes, 3 rows Black in d c mesh. (1 row Black in s c meshes, 3 rows Black in d c meshes.)

HEEL STRAP—With Red, ch 40, break yarn, and attach Black.

1st Row—S c in 2nd st from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, s c in next st, repeat from * across row, break yarn and pick up Red.

2nd Row—Ch 1, s c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, s c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * 10 times, ch 1, s c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * 3 times, break yarn and pick up Black.

3rd Row—Ch 1, s c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, s c in next ch 1 loop, s c in same space, * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * 11 times, ch 1, s c in next ch 1 loop, ch 1, s c in same space * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * to end of row, break yarn, pick up Red.

4th Row—Ch 2, sl st in next s c, * ch 1, sl st in next s c, repeat from * across row.

Sew upper sections to soles leaving 11 free stitches at toe. Sew heel strap to sole leaving about 22 free stitches at heel.

TIES—Take two 2 yd. lengths of Black yarn, twist tightly, hold both ends together allowing it to twist together through center, knot one end to prevent its untwisting. Lace in slipper as illustrated, knot other end.
