LILY DOUBLE QUICK Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art. 50: 6 skeins Gold and 21 skeins Dk. Emerald Green.

No. 0 Steel Crochet Hook.

SIZE — 23 x 40 inches.

Use 2 threads throughout.

BLOCK (5½ inches square): Starting in center with 2 strands Green, ch 2.

RND 1: 8 sc in 2d ch from hook, join with sl st in 1st sc.

RND 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st with sl st, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 3 times, 2 sc in next sc, insert hook in 1st sc, drop Green on back, draw 2 strands Gold thru all lps on hook. Always join next color in this way. Mark this rnd as right side of Rug.

RND 3: Ch 1, turn and working over starting Gold end, 2 sc in same place with sl st, (2 sc in st at base of next 2 sc for 2 long sc, 3 sc in next sc) 3 times, 2 sc in st at base of next 2 sc, sc in same place with 1st 2 sc, join to 1st sc.

RND 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in same st with sl st. Start all rnds in this way, turning all rnds. (Sc in next 4 sc, 3 sc in corner sc) 3 times, sc in next 4 sc, 1 sc in same place with 1st 2 sc, pull up Green at back and join thru sl st in 1st sc. Drop Gold on back.

RND 5: Start rnd as in previous rnds, then (sc in next 2 sc, long sc at base of next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in corner sc) repeated around; end with sc in same place with 1st 2 sc, join. End all rnds in this way.

RND 6: Start rnd, then (1 sc, 2 long, 2 sc, 2 long sc and 1 sc across side, 3 sc in corner sc) repeated around; end as in previous rnds.

RND 7: Start rnd, then work in pattern, * (2 long sc, 2 sc) twice and 2 long sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before.

RND 8: Start rnd, then make * 3 sc, 2 long sc, 2 sc, 2 long sc and 3 sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before, joining Gold. Drop Green on back.

RND 9: Start rnd, then * (2 sc, 2 long sc) 3 times and 2 sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before.

RND 10: Start rnd, then * 1 sc, (2 long sc, 2 sc) 3 times, 2 long sc and 1 sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before, joining Green. Fasten off Gold.

RND 11: Start rnd, then * (2 long sc, 2 sc) 4 times and 2 long sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before.

RND 12: Start rnd, then * 3 sc, (2 long sc, 2 sc) 4 times and 1 sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before.

RND 13: Start rnd, then * (2 sc, 2 long sc) 5 times and 2 sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before.

RND 14: Start rnd, then * 1 sc, (2 long sc, 2 sc) 5 times, 2 long sc and 1 sc; 3 sc in corner sc; repeat from * around; end as before, fasten off Green. Make 28 Blocks and join 4 x 7. Sew Blocks tog. into strips, then sew strips tog, carefully matching corners.

BORDER: Attach 2 strands Green to 1 corner, * ch 1, 2 sc in same st, sc in each st around with 3 sc in each corner; 1 sc in same st with 1st 2 sc, join to 1st sc. Repeat from * 4 times. Fasten off. Stretch and pin Rug right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
