EDGING … Starting at one narrow end, ch 18. 1st row: Sc in 10th ch from hook, (ch 5, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch) twice. Ch 7, turn. 2nd row: Sc in loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) twice; ch 5, dc in same loop. Ch 8, turn. 3rd row: Sc in loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) 3 times. Ch 7, turn. 4th row: Sc in loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) 3 times. Ch 5, dc in same loop. Ch 8, turn. 5th row: Sc in loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) 4 times. Ch 7, turn. 6th row: Sc in loop, (ch 3, 5 dc in next loop, ch 3, sc in next loop) twice; ch 5, dc in same loop. Ch 8, turn. 7th row: Sc in loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) 5 times. Ch 7, turn. 8th row: Sc in loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) 4 times. Ch 2, dc in next loop. Ch 5, turn. 9th row: Sc in next loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) 4 times. Ch 7, turn. 14th row: Sc in loop (ch 5, sc in next loop) twice. Ch 8, turn. 15th row: Sc in loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) twice. Ch 7, turn. Repeat the 2nd to 15th rows inclusive for length desired, ending with 13th row. Fasten off.

   Work along scalloped edge as follows: 1st row: Attach thread to loop at beginning of 1st row, ch 3, then holding back the last loop of each dc on hook, work 2 dc in same loop, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 10, sk 1 loop, then holding back the last loop of each dc on hook, work 3 dc in each of next 2 loops, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made). Ch 10, sk 1 loop, cluster over next 2 loops as before, * ch 10, then holding back the last loop of each dc on hook work 3 dc in same loop as last dc of last cluster, 3 dc in next loop and complete a cluster as before. (Ch 10, sk 1 loop, cluster over next 2 loops) 4 times. Repeat from * across, ending with a 3-dc cluster in last loop. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 12 sc in each of next 2 loops, * 15 sc in next loop, 12 sc in next 4 loops. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.

HEADING … Attach thread to sc at end of 1st row of Edging. 1st row: Ch 4, dc in next sp, * ch 1, dc in next sc, ch 1, dc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Dc in sp, * ch 1, dc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.

INSERTION … Starting at one narrow end, ch 24. 1st row: Sc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 5, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across (5 loops). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Sc in next loop, ch 5, sc in next loop, ch 3, 5 dc in next loop, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 5, sc in next loop. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: Sc in next loop, ch 5, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp; (ch 5, sc in next loop) twice. Ch 5, turn. 4th to 7th rows incl: * Sc in next loop, ch 5. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 8th row: Sc in next loop, ch 3, 5 dc in next loop, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 3, 5 dc in next loop, ch 3, sc in next loop. Ch 5, turn. 9th to 13th rows incl: Sc in next loop, * ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across (5 loops). Ch 5, turn. Repeat the 2nd to 13th rows inclusive for desired length. Do not break off, but ch 5 and work along long side as follows: 1st row: * Dc in next sp, ch 1, dc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Dc in sp, * ch 1, dc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Fasten off. Work along other long side in same way.
