EDGING … Starting at narrow end, ch 6. 1st row: In 6th ch from hook make dc, ch 2 and dc. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: In ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2 and dc. Ch 5, turn. Repeat 2nd row for length desired, having a multiple of 4 plus 3 dc groups. Ch 2, do not turn but work scallops along long edge of piece as follows: 1st row: * In next ch-5 loop make 4 dc, ch 3 and 4 dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: * In next ch-3 sp make (tr, ch 5) 3 times and tr; sc in next ch-3 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in turning ch-2. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: * In next loop make 3 sc, ch 3 and 3 sc; in center loop make (2 sc, ch 3) 3 times and 2 sc; in next loop make 3 sc, ch 3 and 3 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in turning ch. Fasten off.
INSERTION … Ch 6 and work 1st and 2nd rows same as Edging. Ch 2, do not turn but work along long edge as follows: 1st row: * In next ch-5 loop make 4 dc, ch 3 and 4 dc. Repeat from * across. Turn. 2nd row: Sl st in 4 dc, sl st in sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 5, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Fasten off. With right side facing, attach thread in 1st ch-5 loop on opposite edge and work to correspond. Fasten off.
