Completed doily measures about 10 inches in diameter. Center rosette on doily is made later and sewed in place.

Starting at center ch 12. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 24 sc in ring. Sl st in 1st sc made. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 25, sc in 2nd ch from hook, h dc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 14 ch, dc in next 2 ch, h dc in next 2 ch, sc in next ch, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around (12 spokes). Fasten off. 3rd rnd: Attach thread to 14 st of foundation chain of any spoke (counting from base of spoke), ch 1, sc in same place, * sc in next 5 sts, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook (p made), sc in next 5 sc, make 3 more p, sc in same place where the sc preceding the 3 p's was made, sc in next 4 sts, p, sc in next 6 sts, p, sc in 14th st of next spoke. Repeat from * around, ending with p, sl st in 1st sc made. 4th rnd: Sl st in next 4 sc and in 1st ch of p, sl st in p, ch 5, p, ch 2, p, ch 1, sc in center p at tip of spoke, * ch 1, p, ch 2, p, ch 1, (sk next p, tr in next p) twice; ch 1, p, ch 2, p, ch 1, sk next p, sc in next p. Repeat from * around. Join last tr to 4th st of ch-5 first made. 5th rnd: Sl st to sp between next 2 p's, ch 10, * dc between p's of next loop, ch 7. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-7 with sl st in 3rd st of ch-10 first made (24 sps).
   6th rnd: In each sp around make sc, h dc, 7 dc, h dc and sc. Sl st in 1st sc made (24 petals on rnd). 7th rnd: * Ch 2, p, ch 3, p, ch 2, thus making a picot loop (p loop), sc in center st of petal, make a p loop, sc between petals. Repeat from * around. Join. 8th to 11th rnds incl: Sl st across to center of next p loop, * make a p loop, sc between p's of next p loop. Repeat from * around. Join. 12th rnd: Sl st to center of next p loop, ch 10, * dc in next p loop, ch 7. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-7 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-10 first made. 13th rnd: Same as 6th rnd (48 petals on rnd). 14th rnd: Sl st across to center st of next petal, ch 1, sc in same place as last sl st, * make a p loop, sc in center st of next petal. Repeat from * around (48 p loops). Join. 15th rnd: Sl st across to center of next p loop, * (make a p loop, sc in next p loop) 3 times; ch 7, sc in next p loop, ch 1, turn; make 9 sc over ch 7, ch 1, turn; sc in each of 9 sc. Repeat from * around. 16th rnd: Sl st across to center of next p loop, * (make a p loop, sc in next p loop) twice; ch 2, p, ch 1, dc in next sc (ch 2, sk 1 sc, dc in next sc) 4 times; turn. In each of next four ch-4 loops make sc, h dc, dc, h dc and sc. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each of 20 sts. Ch 1, p, ch 2, sc in next p loop. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in base of 1st p loop.
   17th rnd: Sl st across to center of next p loop, * ch 7, sc in next p loop, ch 1, turn; make 9 sc over ch 7, ch 1, turn; sc in each of 9 sc, (make a p loop, sc in center st of next shell) 4 times; make a p loop, sc in next p loop. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 1st sc on 1st scallop. 18th rnd: Ch 5, * (sk next sc, dc in next sc, ch 2) 3 times; dc in last sc, turn. In each of 4 ch-4 sps make sc, h dc, dc, h dc and sc, ch 1, turn; sc in each of 20 sts, ch 1, p, ch 2, sc in next p loop, (make a p loop, sc in next p loop) 4 times; ch 2, p, ch 1, dc in next sc, ch 2. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, p, ch 1, sl st in 3rd st of starting chain. 19th rnd: Sl st to center st of next shell, ch 1, sc in same st as last sl st, * (ch 7, sc in center st of next shell) 3 times; ch 7, sc in next p loop, (make a p loop, sc in next loop) 3 times; ch 7, sc in center st of next shell. Repeat from * across, joining last ch-7 with sl st in 1st sc. 20th rnd: Ch 1, work 11 sc over each of next 3 loops, 6 sc over next loop, turn. (Ch 7, sc in center st of next loop) 3 times; ch 1, turn. Work 12 sc over each of 3 loops, and 5 sc over remainder of next loop, * ch 2, p; then, between p's of each of the next 3 p loops, make (tr, p) 4 times; ch 2, 11 sc over each of next 4 loops, 6 sc over next loop, turn. (Ch 7, sc in center of next loop) 4 times; ch 1, turn. Work 12 sc over each of next 4 loops and 5 sc over remainder of next loop. Repeat from * across, ending with sl st in base of 1st loop, sl st to center of same loop, ch 7, turn; sc in center st of last loop, ch 1, turn, work 12 sc over ch-7. Join and fasten off.

ROSETTE … Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, work 20 sc in ring. Join with sl st in 1st sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, sk 3 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 with sl st in 1st sc. 3rd rnd: In each loop around make sc, h dc, 5 dc, h dc and sc. Join. 4th rnd: * Ch 5, sc between sc's of next 2 petals. Repeat from * around. Join. 5th rnd: Make a petal in each loop, having 7 dc (instead of 5 dc) on each petal. Fasten off. Sew Rosette to center of doily.
   Starch lightly and block to measurement.
