Strawberry Hostess Set Pattern

This Set consists of Pot Holder, Apron and Towel.

MATERIALS—For 3 Strawberries—D-M-C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 5: 5 balls Red No. 666 or No. 321 (A), 1 ball Green No. 911 or No. 701 (B) and D-M-C Six Strand Cotton, Art. 117C: 1 skein White for embroidery.

Apron—D-M-C Six Cord Crochet, Art. 154, Size 10: 9 balls White or Ecru and D-M-C Pearl Cotton, Art. 1 16D, Size 5: 1 ball Red to match Strawberry.

1 Kitchen Towel to match.

Steel Crochet Hook, Size 0 and Size 7 as required.

“STRAWBERRY” MOTIF (Make 3)

GAUGE: for Size 7 Hook: 9 sc = 1 inch; 7 dc rows =2 inches; 10 sc rows =1 inch

With A and size 7 hook, ch 7. Row 1 (see Row 1 on Chart)—1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of 5 chs. Row 2 (see Row 2 on Chart)—Ch 3, turn, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch (2 inc. at beginning of row), 1 sc in each sc across, inc. 2 sts at end of row as follows: draw up a loop in same st as last sc made, yo, thru 1 loop on hook (thus making base st), yo, thru 2 loops on hook (completing sc), draw up a loop in base st of last sc made, yo, thru 1 loop (making base st for next sc), yo, thru 2 loops (completing sc). Work rows 3 and 4 as for row 2. Row 5 (see Row 5 on Chart)—Ch 2, turn, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook (1 inc. at begin­ning of row), 1 sc in each sc, inc. 1 st at end of row as before (20 sc). Work as on Chart to row 8. Row 8—Even row (see Row 8 on Chart)—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc. Work as on Chart to row 40 inc. where indi­cated. Row 4 (see Row 40 on Chart)—Ch 1, turn, slip st in first sc (1 dec. at beginning of row), 1 sc in each remaining sc (55 sc). Work to end of Chart dec. where indicated. Fasten off. Block to shape. With White em­broider Loop-Sts (see Chart) as shown. EDGING—From right side, with A work a row of [1 sc and ch 1] around Strawberry, keeping edge flat, join (with slip st) in first sc, fasten off.

LEAF (Make 4)—With B and size 7 hook, ch 12, [1 dc, 2 hdc] in 4th ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of 7 chs, [2 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, 2 hdc] in end ch, matching sts work 7 hdc on other side of foundation ch, [2 hdc, 1 dc] in next st already used, join (in top of ch-3). Rnd 2—Ch 4, [1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc] in joined st, slip st in next dc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of 2 sts, 1 tr in each of 5 sts, 1 dc in each of 2 sts, [2 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, 2 hdc] in next st, 1 dc in each of 2 sts, 1 tr in each of 9 sts, 2 dc in each of 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, [2 hdc, 1 dc] in next st already used, join in top of ch-4, fasten off. From right side, arrange Leaves in place as shown and sew in place. Leaf Center—With B ch 4, join into ring, ch 3, 17 dc in ring, join. Rnd 2—Ch 1, 1 sc in joined st, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, ch 4, slip st in last sc made, 1 sc in each of next 3 dc; continue in same way ; round, join, fasten off, sew in place as shown.

“STRAWBERRY” POT HOLDER

Pad one Strawberry Motif with quilted or other suitable lining. With B chain 1½ inches, join into ring, 30 sc in ring, join, fasten off, sew to back of Pot Holder.

Appliqué one Strawberry Motif on Towel as shown.

“STRAWBERRY” CROCHETED APRON

GAUGE: for Size 0 Hook: 6 dc = 1 inch; 3 dc rows = 1 inch

With Six Cord Cotton and size 0 hook, ch 135 for top, dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of 131 chs. Row 2—Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, 1 dc in each of 130 dc, 1 dc in top of ch-3. Rpt row 2 until 48 rows. Row 49—Ch 3, turn, yo, draw up a loop in 2nd dc, yo, thru 2 loops on hook, yo, draw up a loop in next dc, yo, thru 2 loops, yo, thru all 3 loops on hook (1 dec.), 1 dc in each dc to last 2 dc, work 1 dec. over last 2 dc, 1 dc in top of ch-3. Rpt row 49 three times. Fasten off. With Six Cord Cotton and size 7 hook, working on other side of founda­tion ch, work 108 sc across top, fasten off.

EDGINGRow 1 (right side)—With Six Cord Cotton and size 7 hook, starting at top, work a row of sc along 3 sides of Apron, working 3 sc at end of each row along 2 sides and 1 sc in each st at bottom. Fasten off. Row 2—From right side, with Red Pearl Cotton and size 7 hook, working in back loop of sts, [1 sc and ch 1] in every 2nd sc of row 1, fasten off. Row 3—From right side, with Six Cord Cotton and size 7 hook, working in back loop of sts, 1 sc in first sc of row 2, * ch 6, skip next ch-1 sp, 1 sc in next sc; rpt from * to end. Rows 4, 5 and 6—Ch 6, turn, 1 sc in first Loop, * ch 6, 1 sc in next Loop; rpt from * to end. Fasten off. Row 7—From right side, with Red and size 7 hook, 1 sc in first Loop, [ch 6 and 1 sc] in each Loop to end, fasten off.

WAISTBAND—With Six Cord Cotton and size 7 hook, ch 13, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 9 chs. Row 2—Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, 1 dc in each of next 8 dc, 1 dc in top of ch-3. Rpt row 2 until 78 rows or desired length. Border—Work a row of sc around Waistband, keeping edge flat, join (with slip st in first sc), fasten off. Rnd 2—From same side as last rnd. with Red [1 sc and ch 1] in back loop of every 2nd sc around, join, fasten off. Sew Waistband in place as shown. Stretch and block to size and press under damp cloth. Line one Strawberry Motif and sew in place for Pocket as shown.
