1 Handkerchief with hemstitched or rolled edge, 11 or 12 inch square.

Steel Crochet Hook, Size 13.

Rnd 1 (right side)—With thread make a loop on hook, 1 sc in any corner of handkerchief, working along edge of handkerchief, ch 6, 1 sc -inch away from first sc made, † * ch 6, 1 sc ¼-inch away from last sc made; rpt from * to and including next corner (having a multiple of 2 plus one Loops), [ch 7, 1 sc, ch 7, 1 sc] in same corner just used; rpt from † around, end last corner with ch-7, join (with slip st in first sc). Rnd 2—Skip joined st, slip st to center of next Loop, ch 1, 1 sc in Loop, † * ch 4, a Shell of 5 dc in next Loop, ch 4, 1 sc in next Loop *; rpt between * to first ch-7 Loop at corner, ch 4, a Shell in first ch-7 Loop, ch 3, a Shell in next ch-7 Loop, ch 4, working along next side of handkerchief, 1 sc in next Loop; rpt from † around, ending with ch-4, join. Rnd 3—Skip joined sc, slip st in each of next 4 chs, slip st in first dc of next Shell, ch 1, 1 sc in each of next 3 dc of same Shell, * ch 9, skip first dc of next Shell, 1 sc in each of next 3 dc of same Shell; rpt from * to ch-3 Loop at corner, ch 7, skip corner ch-3 Loop, 1 sc in each of 3 center dc of next Shell, ch 9; continue in same way around, join.
