Make hairpin lace for desired length. Fasten off. Attach thread to 1st loop, insert hook through 1st 5 loops and (keeping twist of loops throughout) * make s c, working through all loops at once; ch 5, insert hook through each of next 5 loops and repeat from * across. Fasten off. Attach thread to 1st loop at opposite side; make s c through 1st 5 loops as before, s c in same place, ** ch 10, 2 s c through next 5 loops, 2 s c through following 5 loops. Repeat from ** across, ending with ch 10, 2 s c. Ch 4, turn. Next row: * In next ch-10 make 8 d c separated by ch-1 (fan), ch 3, s c between next two 2-s c groups, ch 3. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 3, s c at end of row. Ch 4, turn. Following row: * In each ch-1 of next fan make d c with ch-2 between, skip following two ch-3's. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Last row: * 2 s c in next sp, ch 3. Repeat from * across, but do not make ch-3 between fans. Fasten off.
