Mexicana Luncheon Set Pattern #7075

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 10, 2 balls of Sport Green, 6 of Spanish Red, 4 of Dk. Orange, 2 of Black, and 1 ball of Steel Blue, size 30; or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls of Sport Green, 5 balls of Spanish Red, 3 balls of Dk. Orange, 2 balls of Black and 1 ball of Steel Blue.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.
1½ yds. 54-inch width ecru linen.

This material is sufficient for four place mats, each about 12 x 18 inches, and a center mat about 14 x 26 inches.

Place Mat. Cut linen 11 x 17 inches and make a narrow hem. 1st row: Attach Sport Green along one edge and work s c closely all around over hem. Join with sl st and break off. 2nd row: Attach Spanish Red, ch 5, thread over, ** skip 2 s c, insert hook in next st and draw loop through, * thread over, insert hook in same st and draw loop through. Repeat from * once more (7 loops on hook), then thread over hook and draw through all loops on hook, (thus a group-st is made), ch 2. Repeat from ** around, making 2 group-sts at each corner st. Join last group with sl st to 3rd st of ch-5 first made. Break off. 3rd row: Attach Black and make 3 s c in each ch-2 sp. Join with sl st and break off. 4th row: Attach Dk. Orange and work as for 2nd row, but taking care to have group-sts come directly over those of previous row, making 2 group-sts at each corner. Join with sl st and break off. Repeat the 3rd and 4th rows alternately, using Steel Blue for 5th row, Spanish Red for 6th row, Sport Green for 7th row, Dk. Orange for 8th row, Spanish Red for 9th row. Fasten all threads securely.

Center Mat. Cut linen 13 x 25 inches, and work exactly as for Place Mat.
