Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (58 balls) or J. & P. Coats (49 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 20, White or Ecru.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11.

When completed, tablecloth measures about 72 x 90 inches (16 x 20 motifs). Motifs measure about 4½ inches in diameter. They are made individually and then sewed together.

Motif. Starting at center, ch 20, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 31 s c in ring. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 7 (to count as d tr), make 1 d tr in each of next 3 s c, leaving the last loop of each d tr on hook, * then thread over and work off 2 loops at a time until all loops are worked off; then, ch 12, 1 d tr in each of next 4 s c, leaving the last loop of each d tr on hook. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-12 with sl st to tip of 1st point (8 points in all). 3rd rnd: Sl st across to center of ch-12 loop, * ch 15, s c in center st of next ch-12 loop. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: S c in next loop, ch 4 (to count as tr), 6 more tr in same loop, * ch 3, 7 tr in same loop, 7 tr in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st. 5th rnd: * Ch 8, skip 3 tr, d c in next tr, ch 5, tr in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, tr in same sp, ch 5, skip 3 tr, d c in next tr, ch 5, d c between the two 7-tr groups. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 with sl st to base of ch-8 first made. 6th rnd: * 3 s c in next sp, 2 s c in next sp, ch 5, tr in next sp, ch 5, tr in same sp, ch 5, 2 s c in next sp, 3 s c in next sp. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st and break off. Make 320 motifs.

To Join Motifs. Place motifs in position (16 x 20 motifs). With over-and-over stitches, sew 2 points of 1 motif to corresponding 2 points of the adjacent motif (always having right side of work on top). Then fill in spaces between motifs as follows:

Fill-in-Lace. Work as for 1st and 2nd rnds of motif but, instead of making ch-12 between points, make ch-11 and join the 6th ch of each ch-11 to each joining of motifs and also in center s c of 6-s c groups (which are between points of motifs). Fasten and break off.
