Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (66 balls) or J. & P. Coats (47 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 30, White or Ecru.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.

When completed, tablecloth measures about 65 x 80 inches (13 x 16 motifs). Motifs measure about 5 inches in diameter. They are made individually and then sewed together.

Motif. Starting at center, ch 9, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 23 d c in ring. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 2nd rnd: * Ch 15, s c in each of next 3 d c. Repeat from * around (8 loops). 3rd rnd: * Work 20 s c in next loop, s c in center s c of 3-s c group. Repeat from * around. Break off. 4th rnd: Attach thread to 10th s c of next loop, * ch 9, s c in 10th s c of next loop. Repeat from * around. 5th rnd: Work 10 s c in each loop. 6th to 9th rnds incl: S c in each s c, making 8 increases in each rnd at regular intervals but not directly over those of previous rnd (112 s c in 9th rnd). 10th rnd: Ch 3, d c in each s c around. 11th rnd: * Ch 15, skip 4 d c, s c in each of next 3 d c. Repeat from * around. 12th rnd: Same as 3rd rnd. Break off. 13th rnd: Same as 4th rnd. 14th rnd: 11 s c in each loop. Join with sl st. 15th rnd: Ch 6 (to count as d c and ch-3), * d c in same s c, ch 4, skip 4 s c, s c in each of next 3 s c, ch 4, skip 4 s c, d c in next s c, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-4 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-6 first made. 16th rnd: Sl st to center of ch-3 sp, ch 6 (to count as d c and ch-3), * d c in same sp, ch 3, d c in same sp, ch 5, s c in center s c of 3-s c group, ch 4, d c in next ch-3 sp, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Break off. Make 208 Motifs.

To Join Motifs: Place motifs in position (13 x 16 motifs). With over-and-over stitches, sew 2 points of one motif to a corresponding 2 points of the adjacent motif (always having right side of work on top), thus leaving 2 points free on each motif. Then fill in spaces between motifs as follows:

Fill-in-Lace. 1st rnd: Same as 1st rnd of motif. 2nd rnd: Ch 9, sl st in a ch-3 sp at one point of any one motif, * ch 1, work 10 s c on ch-9, s c in each of next 2 d c of 2nd rnd, ch 9, sl st in a ch-3 sp at next point on same motif, ch 1, work 10 s c on ch-9, s c in each of next 2 d c, ch 9, sl st in a ch-3 sp at next point on next motif, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Break off.
