Regent Dinner Cloth Pattern #7069

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (60 balls) or J. & P. Coats (45 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 30, White or Ecru.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11.
2 yds. of 18-inch wide linen.

When completed, tablecloth measures about 60 x 80 inches, and 4 napkins, each about 14 inches square. Lace is made in 3 individual pieces then sewed to linen, as explained later.

Gauge: 6 sps make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.

For satisfactory results, it is important to get gauge as specified. The chart shows ¼ of design.

Outer Lace: Starting at center of narrow edge of cloth, (see "A-A" on chart), ch 114 (to measure about 6½ inches), turn. 1st row: D c in 9th ch from hook, d c in each of next 45 ch (15 bls made). Ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch (1 sp made), make 3 more sps, 4 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each of next 6 d c, make 2 sps, then ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, d c in each of next 3 d c, 2 d c in sp, d c in next d c, 2 d c in next sp, d c in each of next 4 d c, ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, make 3 more sps, 4 bls, 4 sps, 12 bls, 1 sp, 2 bls. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 1 bl, 1 sp, 1 bl, 4 sps, 7 bls, 4 sps, 4 bls, 6 sps, 2 bls, 4 sps, 2 bls. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter follow chart from 4th row on to 120th row incl (see "B-B" on chart). At end of 120th row, ch 59, turn.

121st row: D c in 9th ch from hook, and continue making 51 more sps, then 2 bls. Ch 3, turn. Continue to work until "C-C"; then ch 5, turn and continue, still following chart to "D-D" to complete corner, ending with 2 rows of d c (174 rows). At end of 174th row, do not break off but ch 3, and continue for strip on other side as follows: Next row: Work 6 d c across bars of next 2 d c, ch 2, and make 34 sps across, working along end of rows ("C-D"). Following row: 3 sps, 2 bls, 29 sps, 2 bls. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter follow chart. When row reaches to the top row, reverse the design, by working back from the top row to "C-D". Then ch 59, turn and work to "B-D". Then continue along ends of rows from "B-B" until you reach "A-A". Then reverse the design by working back from "A-A" to "B-B". This completes 2½ sides. Complete remainder to correspond. Sew the two ends together.

Inner Lace: Starting at bottom, ch 725 (to measure about 41½ inches), turn. 1st row: D c in 9th ch from hook, make 2 bls, 1 sp, 13 bls, 3 sps, 5 bls, 190 sps, 5 bls, 3 sps, 13 bls, 1 sp, 2 bls, 1 sp. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 3 bls, 1 sp, 12 bls, 4 sps, 4 bls, 192 sps, 4 bls, 4 sps, 12 bls, 1 sp, 3 bls, ch 3, turn. Hereafter follow chart as far as "O". Then, working on one side, follow chart to top row. Break off. Work other side to correspond. Make another piece same as this. Sew pieces together.

Center Lace: Starting at short end, ch 75, turn. 1st row: D c in 6th ch from hook, make 23 more sps. Ch 5, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Sp over sp of previous row. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: 5 sps, 2 bls, 10 sps, 2 bls, 5 sps. Ch 5, turn. 5th row: 4 sps, 4 bls, 8 sps, 4 bls, 4 sps. Ch 5, turn. 6th row: 3 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 6 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 3 sps. Ch 5, turn. Hereafter follow chart to the top row; then reverse the design by working back to the 1st row.

Cut linen into strips, each 3½ inches wide, making 2 each of the following lengths: 62½ inches, 40½ inches, 26½ inches, 4½ inches; and four 3½-inch squares. Make a ¼-inch hem all around linen strips, and sew to lace strips as in illustration.
