Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 30, 8 balls of Linen, and 4 balls each of China Blue and Steel Blue; or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 30, 6 balls of Linen, and 3 balls each of China Blue and Steel Blue.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10 or 11.

When completed, head rest measures about 25 inches across top x 11 inches from top to point, and each arm piece about 10½ x 11½ inches across center. Motifs are made individually and then sewed together.

Head Rest. Starting at top, make 14 half-motifs as follows:

Half Motif: With Linen ch 2, turn, 2 s c in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in 1st s c, 2 s c in next s c. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 s c in 1st s c, s c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: S c in each s c across, 2 s c in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the last 2 rows alternately until there are 13 s c in the row. Then dec. 1 s c at increase edge each row until 1 s c remains (to dec. work off 2 s c as 1 s c). Fasten and break off. Make 13 more half-motifs in same way and sew points together so that top edge forms a straight line.

Motifs: With Steel Blue, ch 2, turn. 1st row: 3 s c in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 2 s c in 1st s c, s c in s c, 2 s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 s c in 1st s c, s c in each s c across, 2 s c in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd row until there are 27 s c in row. Break off. Attach China Blue and continue to make s c in each s c, but decreasing 1 s c at both ends of each row until 1 s c remains. Break off. Make 47 more motifs same as this. Then make 40 more motifs, but using Linen color only. Place motifs as in diagram and sew them together with neat over-and-over sts on wrong side. This completes head rest.

Arm Pieces. Make 18 Linen motifs and 18 motifs of Steel Blue and China Blue as before. Place these motifs together as in diagram and sew them together on wrong side.
