Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 30, 8 balls of Ecru and 3 balls of Sport Green; or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 30, 6 balls of Ecru and 2 balls of Sport Green.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11.

When completed, chair back measures about 16 x 11 inches, and each arm piece about 7 x 11 inches.

First Motif. Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 19 d c in ring. Join with sl st between ch-3 and 1st d c. 2nd rnd: Ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), * d c between next 2 d c, ch 2. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with ch-2. Sl st in first ch-2 sp (20 sps). 3rd rnd: Ch 3, 2 d c in same sp as sl st, 3 d c in each of next 3 sps, * ch 8, skip 1 sp, 3 d c in each of next 4 sps. Repeat from * 2 more times, then ch 8 and join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made. Break off.

Second Motif. Work as for first motif to 2nd rnd incl. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, 2 d c in same sp, join with s c between 3rd and 4th d c on adjacent side of first motif (always keeping right side of work on top), make 3 d c in next sp back on second motif, s c between 6th and 7th d c of same side of first motif, 3 d c in next sp back on second motif, s c between 9th and 10th d c of same side of first motif, 3 d c in next sp back on second motif, ch 4, join with sl st to ch-8 loop of first motif, ch 4, skip 1 sp on second motif, 3 d c in next sp. Complete this rnd as in first motif with no more joinings to within the last ch-8. Then ch 4, join with sl st to ch-8 on first motif, ch 4, join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made on second motif. Break off. Make 13 more motifs, joining each motif to previous one as second was joined to first.

Make another strip of 15 motifs, joining as follows: Work 1st motif of second strip and join to first motif of first strip.

Second Motif. Work as before to 2nd rnd incl. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, 2 d c in same sp as sl st, 3 d c in each of next 3 sps, ch 4, sl st in ch-8 loop of first motif of second strip, ch 4, skip 1 sp on second motif, 3 d c in next sp, s c between 3rd and 4th d c of first motif, 3 d c back in next sp of second motif, s c between 6th and 7th d c of first motif, 3 d c back in next sp of second motif, s c between 9th and 10th d c of first motif, 3 d c back in next sp of second motif, ch 4, sl st in ch-8 loop of corner, ch 4, skip 1 sp, 3 d c in next sp and continue to join next side of motif to adjacent side of second motif of first strip as before, and complete rnd. Continue in this manner until 129 motifs are made in Ecru and 22 in Sport Green, joining motifs as in illustration.

Arm Pieces. Work exactly as for chair back until 62 motifs are made in Ecru and 9 in Sport Green for each arm piece. Join motifs as in illustration.
