Materials: Choose one of the following threads in White or Ecru:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 4 balls.
J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 3 balls.
J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 2 balls.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12.
½ yd. linen, 36 inches wide.

When completed, chair back measures about 16 x 13 inches, and each arm piece about 10 x 7½ inches.

Chair Back. Starting at lower center point, ch 2. 1st row: 3 s c in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn. Hereafter pick up only the back half of each s c. 2nd row: S c in 1st s c, 3 s c in next s c, s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: S c in each of 2 s c, 3 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 2 s c. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: S c in each of 3 s c, 3 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 3 s c. Ch 1, turn. Hereafter continue in this manner, always having an additional s c on both sides of center 3-s c group on each row, and working until piece measures 13½ inches across center. On next row, work across to center s c, ch 1, turn. Following row: S c in 2nd s c, s c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Next row: Work as before to within last 3 s c. Ch 1, turn. Repeat these last 2 rows alternately until all s c are worked off. Break off. Attach thread at center and work opposite side to correspond. Break off. Cut 2 pieces of linen, as in illustration and make a very narrow hem all around edges. Sew one on each side of this piece.

Arm Pieces. Work exactly as for chair back until piece measures 10 inches. Break off. Cut linen and complete as for chair back.
