Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 2 balls, Ecru or White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4.

When completed, chair back measures about 14 x 17½ inches, and each arm piece about 8 x 13 inches. Each star is joined to adjacent stars on the 3rd rnd, as explained later.

Chair Back. First Star: To begin, ch 12 and join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 24 s c in ring. Join with sl st to 1st s c. 2nd rnd: * Ch 7, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from * around. Join last ch 7 with a sl st (8 loops). 3rd rnd: * 4 s c in next loop, ch-3 p, 4 s c in same loop. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st. Break off. This completes one star. Second Star: Work as for first star to 2nd rnd incl. 3rd rnd: 4 s c in next loop, ch 1, sl st in any p of first star (having right side of work on top), ch 1, 4 s c back in same loop on second star, 4 s c in next loop of second star, ch 1, sl st in next p of first star, ch 1, 4 s c back in same loop of second star, and complete this rnd as in first star with no more joinings. Fasten and break off. Make 9 more stars joining each star to previous one as second star was joined to first, leaving 2 petals free between joinings (a strip of 11 stars — see illustration).

First Star of Second Strip: Work as for second star of first strip, joining to lower 2 petals of first star of first strip (thus leaving 4 petals free to form corner of chair back).

Second Star: Work as before to 2nd rnd incl. 3rd rnd: Work as for 3rd rnd of previous star, but join to the two adjacent stars and complete rnd. Work next 9 stars of this strip, joining thus to adjacent two stars. Make 4 more strips of 11 stars each joining to previous stars as before.

To form points at lower edge of chair back, make 2 stars, joining them to the 2nd and 3rd stars of last strip. Then make 1 star, joining to the 2 stars just made as in illustration. This completes the point at one end. Work point at other end in same way. For center point, work 3 stars and join to the center 3 stars as before. Then make 2 stars, joining to these 3 stars just made. Then make 1 star and join to the 2 stars. Break off. This completes chair back.

Arm Pieces. Work as for chair back, having 6 strips of 5 stars each. Then finish point same as for center point of chair back.
