Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "PURITAN” MERCERIZED CROCHET AND KNITTING COTTON, ARTICLE 40
1—215 yd. Ball White and
"STAR” PEARL COTTON, ARTICLE 90, SIZE 5
1—50 yd. Ball Red.
2—50 yd. Balls Green will make 2 potholders.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

With White, ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 5, d c in ring, * ch 2, d c in ring, repeat from * 5 times, ch 2, join in 3rd st of ch.
2nd Row—* Ch 4, s c in next d c, repeat from * all around (8 loops), break thread.
3rd Row—Attach Green in loop, * ch 7, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts of ch, (s d c: thread over needle, insert in space, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time) 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts of ch, s c in next loop, repeat from * all around.
4th Row—1 s c in each of the 5 sts on side of leaf, 3 s c in point of leaf, 5 s c down other side of leaf, repeat from beginning all around, join, break thread.
5th Row—Attach White in point of leaf, 3 s c in same space, * 1 s d c in each of the next 2 s c, d c in next s c, thread over needle twice, insert needle in last s c on side of leaf and work off 2 loops twice, thread over needle once, insert in 1st s c on side of next leaf and work off all loops 2 at a time, skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 s c, 3 s c in next s c (top of leaf), repeat from * all around in same manner, join.
6th Row—Ch 3, * 3 d c in next s c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * all around in same manner, join in 3rd st of ch, break White.
7th Row—Attach Green at center st at point, ch 1 and work 3 s c in same space, * 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts, ch 9, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts of ch, 1 d c in each of the next 4 sts of ch, skip 1 st of previous row, 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts, 3 s c in next st, repeat from * all around in same manner, join.
8th Row—Ch 1 and work 1 s c in same space, 1 s c in each of the next 6 s c, * skip 1 s c and work 7 s c up side of leaf, 3 s c in point of leaf, 7 s c down other side of leaf, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c, repeat from * all around in same manner ending row with 1 s c in each of the last 4 s c, join, break thread.
9th Row—Attach White in center st at point of leaf and work 3 s c in same space, * s c in next s c, 1 s d c in each of the 3 s c, d c in next s c, thread over needle twice, skip 2 s c, insert in next s c, pull through, thread over and work off 2 loops twice, thread over needle once, insert in next s c, pull through and work off all loops 2 at a time, skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, s d c in next s c, s c in next s c, s d c in next s c, d c in next s c, skip 2 s c, thread over needle twice, insert in next st, pull through and work off 2 loops twice, thread over needle once, insert in next s c, pull through and work off all loops 2 at a time, skip 2 s c, d c in next s c on side of next leaf, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 s c, s c in next s c, 3 s c in next s c, repeat from * all around in same manner, join.
10th Row—Ch 3 and work 3 d c in center st at top of each leaf and 1 d c in each remaining st.
11th Row—Ch 3, ** 3 d c in next st (point), 1 d c in each of the next 10 sts, * thread over needle, insert in next st, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from *, thread over and work off all loops at one time (a decrease at base of scallop), 1 d c in each of the next 9 d c, repeat from ** all around in same manner.
12th Row—Same as 10th row.
13th Row—Same as last row but decreasing 1 st at base of each scallop, between leaves, break thread. Work another section in same manner.
With Green, crochet the 2 sections together as follows: ch 3, 2 d c in same space, * skip 1 st, s c in next st, skip 1 st, 3 d c in next st, repeat from * all around, break thread.
With Green, cover a bone ring with s c and attach to potholder as illustrated.
