Black Out Hat Pattern #PC-1351

MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 8 balls (1 oz. balls) of White make the set.
A set of 4 double-pointed steel knitting needles No. 12 for Gloves.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 8 for Hat.
26 inches of millinery wire.

Use a double strand throughout Hat.

HAT

Starting at center of Crown, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring. 2nd rnd: 2 dc in ch-3, 2 dc in each dc around. 3rd rnd: 2 dc in each dc around (48 dc). 4th rnd: Dc in each dc around.
   Overlap edges of wire so that it measures 7½ inches in diameter. Tie ends securely.
   5th rnd: Holding wire at top of last rnd and working over it in order to conceal it, make sc in each dc around. 6th rnd: Still working over the wire make sc between each sc around. 7th rnd: Ch 3, 3 dc in same place as last sc, leaving the last loop of each dc on hook. Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (a cluster made). * Skip 1 sc, cluster in next sc—to make a cluster, make 4 dc in sc, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. Ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-1 to tip of 1st cluster. 8th and 9th rnds: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, make a cluster in same ch-1 sp, * ch 1, cluster in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * around. Join. 10th rnd: * Sc in tip of cluster, sc in ch-1 sp. Repeat from * around. 11th to 15th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. Break off. Turn the last 5 rnds inside Crown.

HEAD STRAP … With 3 strands of yarn make a chain 22 inches long. Join, do not break off. Pin strap across center of Crown on wrong side, try hat on and adjust Strap to fit head. Sew in place.
