Square Brimmed Hat Pattern #PC-1336

MATERIALS:
Chadwick's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 3 balls (1 oz. balls).
Bone Crochet Hook No. 8.
25 inches of ribbon, 1½ inches wide.

Use a double strand throughout.

CROWN … Starting at center, ch 7. 1st rnd: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch, 3 dc in next ch, then work along opposite side of starting chain, making dc in each ch. 2nd rnd: 2 dc in each dc around. 3rd rnd: * Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: Dc in next 3 dc, 3 dc in next dc, 3 dc in next 3 dc, sc in next 3 dc, 3 dc in next 3 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in each dc to 3 dc-group (mark this point as beginning of each of following rnds). 5th rnd: Dc in next dc, 3 dc in center dc of 3 dc-group, dc in next 4 dc, sc in next 3 sc, dc in next 4 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in each dc to 3 dc-group. 6th, 7th and 8th rnds: Repeat the 5th rnd, having 1 more dc on each side of the 3 sc on each rnd. At the end of the 8th rnd, make sc in next 2 dc. Ch 3, turn.

Work is now done in rows instead of rounds.

BRIM 1st row: 2 dc in next sc, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * until 20 dc are made, 3 dc in next dc, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in following dc) 4 times; 3 dc in next dc, ** dc in next dc, 2 dc in following dc. Repeat from ** until 20 dc are made, counting from last 3 dc-group. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each dc, making 3 sc in center dc of 3 dc-group. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in each dc, making 3 dc at center sc of 3 sc-group. Ch 1, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows. 6th row: Sc in each sc across. Break off.
   Gather Brim at center. Make a bow with ribbon and sew in front of gathers. Sew the last row of Brim at each end to Crown.
