Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.

Divan Back—about 15 x 18½ inches (when blocked).
Arm Pieces—about 7½ x 11 inches (when blocked).

Gauge: Each motif measures about 2½ inches diagonally.

MOTIF … 1st rnd: * Ch 16, drop loop from hook. Insert hook in 1st ch and draw loop through; 13 s c in half of ring. Repeat from * 3 more times. Join to 1st s c made in 1st ring. Do not turn. 2nd rnd: 13 s c in next ring; in sp between 2 rings make s c, ch 5, s c. Repeat from * 3 more times. 3rd rnd: Ch 7, * in next ch-5 loop make 9 d tr with ch-2 between; ch 2. Repeat from * around, ending with 8 d tr in last loop with ch-2 between, ch 2. Sl st in 5th st of ch-7. 4th rnd: S c in sp, * ch 5, s c in 1st st of ch-5 just made (p), s c in next sp. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st s c made. This completes 1 motif.
   Make 50 motifs in all for divan back. Arrange motifs as in illustration, joining them at p's adjacent to corner p's of each motif, leaving corner p's free.
   Make 18 motifs for each arm piece, arranging motifs as for divan back (see illustration).
