MATERIALS: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 2 balls each of Red, Green and Blue, and 1 ball of Yellow.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.
¼ yd. cotton crash, 50 inches wide.

Chair Back—about 10 x 16 inches.
Arm Pieces—about 7½ x 10 inches.

CHAIR BACK ... Cut material 7½ x 13½ inches, and make a narrow hem all around. 1st rnd: With Red s c closely around edges, making 3 s c in each corner; join (always make necessary number of sts at corners to keep work flat). 2nd rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), d c in next 4 d c, * ch 5; 2 tr in 5th ch from hook, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster). Ch 5, and complete another cluster as before in 5th ch from hook; skip 3 sts, d c in next 5 sts. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. 3rd rnd: With Yellow * s c in next 5 sts, d c in next 3 s c. Repeat from * around; join. 4th rnd: Ch 3, make d c in each st around. Join and fasten off. 5th rnd: With Green s c in next 6 sts, * insert hook between next 2 Red clusters and in next st on incom­pleted rnd, and finish as for an s c; s c in next 7 sts. Repeat from * around; join. 6th rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), * ch 5 and complete 2 clusters as before, skip 3 sts, d c in next 5 sts. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. 7th rnd: With Blue s c in 3rd st of starting ch below, * d c in next 3 sts, s c in next 5 d c. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. 8th rnd: Ch 3, make d c in each st around. Join and fasten off. 9th rnd: With Red s c in next 2 s c, * insert hook between next 2 Green clusters and in next st on incompleted rnd, and complete as for an s c, s c in next 7 d c. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. In blocking, square off corners.

ARM PIECES … Cut material 5 x 7½ inches and com­plete as for chair back.
