Milward's steel crochet hook No. 9.
1 yd. ribbon, 1 inch wide.

Ch 8, join with sl st. 1st rnd: 20 s c in ring; join. 2nd rnd: Ch 5, * skip 1 s c, d c in next s c, ch 2. Repeat from * around, sl st in ch-5 loop. 3rd rnd: Ch 8, * d c in next sp, ch 5. Repeat from * around, sl st in 3rd st of ch-8. 4th rnd: In each sp make s c, half d c, 3 d c, half dc and s c; sl st in 1st s c (10 scallops). 5th rnd: Ch 10, * d c between next 2 scallops, ch 7. Repeat from * around; sl st in 3rd st of ch-10. 6th rnd: In each loop make s c, half d c, 7 d c, half d c and s c; join. 7th rnd: Ch 13, * d c between next 2 scallops, ch 10. Handle … 1st row: Ch 6, d c in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Picking up only back loop, make d c in next 2 d c and in turning ch. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row for 2½ inches. Fasten off. Make another piece like this; do not fasten off but work across first piece; ch 3, turn. Now work across both pieces until handle measures 9 inches in all. Ch 3, turn and make 3 d c. Ch 3, turn and work to correspond with other end. Sew on handle 2 rows down on wrong side.

Starch pieces very stiff, pull into shape and allow to dry thoroughly. Trim with ribbon bows.
