Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.
J. & P. Coats Bias Trim, 1½ yds. of contrasting color.
Gauge: 5 d c-sps make 1 inch.
Back … Make a 9-inch chain. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, d c in next ch. Repeat from * until 34 sps are made, ch 1, skip 1 ch, d c in next 2 ch (35 sps with 2 d c at each end). Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in 1st d c, * ch 1, s c in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 1, s c in top of ch-3. Ch 3 (to count as d c), turn. 3rd row: D c in 1st ch-1 sp, * ch 1, d c in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with d c in ch-1, d c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece is square. Fasten off.
Front Triangle … Make a 9-inch chain. 1st row: D c in 5th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, d c in next ch. Repeat from * until 35 sps are made, ending with 2 d c. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in 1st d c, * ch 1, s c in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from *, ending with ch 1, s c in 2nd sp from end, s c in last sp (decrease); ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c in 1st ch-1 sp (another decrease), * ch 1, d c in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from *, ending with d c in last ch-1 and in last s c. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Repeat 2nd row, making ch 2 to turn. 5th row: Repeat 3rd row. 6th row: Like 2nd row to within 3rd sp from end, s c in next sp. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 3rd to 6th rows incl. until 23 d c-rows are made. Then work along decrease-edge as follows: * Ch 3, s c in next end sp. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.
Bind all edges with Bias Trim, working over the 2 thicknesses at lower sides, and allowing for loop at top.
