Fringed Bag Pattern #2169

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball of color 116 Blossom Pink, or Clark's O.N.T. Cronita, 2 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4. A pair of 7-inch wooden handles, and lining material. A 4-inch slide fastener for inside pocket if desired.

The entire bag is worked in s c. Beginning at top, ch 63 to measure slightly longer than handles. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each st of foundation ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: S c in each s c across, ch 1, turn. 4th row: 2 s c in first s c (an increase), s c in each s c to end of row, making 2 s c in last s c (an increase), ch 1, turn. 5th row: S c in each s c across. 6th to 22nd rows incl: Repeat 4th and 5th rows alternately ending with an increase row. 23rd row: Insert hook in first s c, draw thread through, insert hook in next s c, draw thread through, thread over and take off all 3 loops at once (this is a decrease). S c in each s c across to within 2 sts from end of row, then decrease 1 st as done at the beginning of row. Ch 1, turn. 24th row: S c in each s c across, ch 1, turn. 25th to 56th rows incl: Repeat 23rd and 24th rows alternately. Fasten off.

Fringe. Attach thread to one end at foundation ch and work along edges (omitting top edge) as follows: * Make 3 s c (that is 1 s c in end of each row, so that work lies flat), then ch 5, s c in 2nd ch from hook and s c in each of next 3 ch sts, s c in same place as previous s c that was made in the row. Repeat from * around. Break off. This completes one side of bag.

Make the other side same as this, but omit fringe. Sew the two sides together. Cut lining in same shape and size as bag allowing for seams. Cut a 4-inch piece and sew to lining for pocket. Sew in fastener. Sew lining together and sew in bag. Sew bag to handles.
