Pochette Purse Pattern #2112

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (8 balls) or J. & P. Coats (6 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 20, White or Ecru. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7. A button 1¼ inch in diameter, and lining material.

The pochette is worked with double thread throughout.

Beginning at bottom of flap, ch 75, turn. 1st row: 1 s c in 3rd ch from hook, 1 s c in each st of foundation ch (73 s c). Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Hereafter s c's are made by picking up only the back loop of each s c of previous row. 1 s c in each s c of previous row. Ch 2, turn. 3rd to 14th rows incl: Same as 2nd row. 15th row: 1 s c in each of the next 31 s c, ch 11, skip 11 s c (for buttonhole), continue with s c to end of row. Ch 2, turn. 16th row: 1 s c in each s c, and in each st of ch-11. Ch 2, turn. 17th to 29th rows incl: S c in each s c. Ch 2, turn. Next row: 1 s c in each of next 15 sts (thus starting a strip of ridges). Ch 2, turn. Work s c over these 15 s c back and forth until a strip of 60 ridges (2 rows make 1 ridge) is made. Break off. * Then skip the next 14 s c of 29th row, attach thread to 15th sc. Ch 2, s c in same s c, 1 s c in each of next 14 s c (15 s c). Ch 2, turn. Work over these 15 s c back and forth until there are 60 ridges as previous strip. Break off. Repeat from * once.

Openwork Insertions: Make a chain to measure 1 inch longer than a strip, turn. 1st row: 1 d c in 6th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch of foundation ch, d c in next ch. Repeat from * to end of ch. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: 1 d c in 1st sp, * ch 1, 1 d c in next sp, repeat from * to end of row. Ch 4, turn. 3rd to 7th rows incl: Same as 2nd row. Fasten and break thread after 7th row. Make another insertion piece. Insert insertions between s c strips and sew into position. Line bag, cutting a slit in lining for the buttonhole. Sew up sides, allowing for flap as in illustration. Sew on button to correspond with buttonhole.
