Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD      
"AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN
7—70 yd. skeins Yellow
1—70 yd. skein each Black, Watermelon, Orange and White
Aluminum Crochet Hook Size J OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE: 2 sts = 1 inch; 2 rows = 1 inch

NOTE: Work with double strand of yarn throughout.

With Yellow, ch 56, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows. 2nd ROW: 1 s c in each sc. Repeat 2nd row 38 times. 41st ROW: Work across 6 s c for tail, ch 1, turn. Repeat 41st row 5 times, cut yarn.

MANE: Cut Black into 6 inch lengths. Cut Orange and Watermelon into 8 inch lengths. Alternating Black fringe between Orange and Watermelon fringe, pull a single Black fringe through 35th s c of 1st row, pull 1 strand of Orange and 1 strand of Watermelon through 34th s c of 1st row. Continue fringe to corner, up side, across top and in a straight line down to beg working the fringe into the top loop of s c. Work a 2nd row of fringe in same manner having 2 inches free between. Work a 3rd row of fringe in same manner, but do not work on lower edge. Work a fringe over center 7 s c at top looping the fringe from opposite direction so they will lay flat on face. Work 3 rows of fringe on end of tail in same manner.

FACE: With White ch 12 and work Use across ch for EYES. Repeat last row 6 times, cut yarn. Work another section. With Black ch 6, work 5 s c across ch for EYES. Work 4 more rows of s c, cut yarn. Work another section.

NOSE: With Black ch 3, work 2 s c on ch. 2nd ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 3rd ROW: Inc 1 sc in 1st and last sc. Repeat last row 5 times. 9th ROW: Dec 1 st at beg and end of row. Repeat last row twice, cut yarn.

MOUTH: With Black ch 35, cut yarn.

TONGUE: With Watermelon ch 6, work 5 sc across ch. 2nd ROW: Work 7 tr c in center st, sl st in last st, cut yarn. Sew features in place as illustrated. High­light eyes with ½ inch straight White st.
