Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD
"AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN
1—70 yd. skein each Black, Red and Natural
Aluminum Crochet Hook SIZE H CR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch

BODY: With Black ch 16, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd ROW: 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row 12 more times, cut yarn. Attach Red, and work in same manner for 6 more rows. (NOTE: When changing colors, complete last half of last st with new color). 21st and 22nd ROWS: Dec 1 s c at beg and end of row (to dec: insert hook in 1 s c, pull loop through, insert hook in next st, pull loop through yo and work off all loops at one time). 23rd and 24th ROWS: Work even, cut yarn.

NECK: 25th ROW: Attach Natural, dec 1 st at beg and end of row. 26th and 27th ROWS: Work even. 28th and 29th ROWS: Inc 1 st at beg and end of row.

HEAD: NEXT 6 ROWS: Work even. NEXT 4 ROWS: Dec 1 st at beg and end of each row, cut yarn. Work a 2nd section.

ARM OUTLINE: With Black ch 16, cut yarn. Tack in position as illustrated.

VEST: Thread Natural yarn into blunt needle and starting in center st of 7th row of Red, work graduated long sts as illustrated.

TIE: With Black work about 6 long sts horizontally and 2 vertical sts in center over the 6 long sts.

HAIR: Wind Black 70 times over a 4 inch cardboard. Sew one end and cut other end, glue to head as illustrated. Work a ch with Natural to go down center of body and around waist. With Black work across center for buckle.

MUSTACHE: Cut 6 strands Black 8 inches long, tie in center. Open each strand. Brush until fuzzy. Twist ends and moisten with glue. Tack in position.

EYES AND EYEBROWS: Cut 2 strands 1 inch long for eyebrows, glue in place. Cut Eyes from Black felt and glue in place.

NOSE AND MOUTH: Cut from Red felt and glue in place. Sew side seam.
