MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 6 balls of Tur­quoise and 1 ball of Black.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6.
6 gold beads.
¾ yard black felt.
12-inch corset steel.

Divide each color into 4 equal parts and use 4 threads throughout.

HAT

With Turquoise, ch 40. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Sc in each ch around (40 sc). 2nd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 3rd to 11th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 12th rnd: Sc in next 15 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 43 sc, 3 sc in next sc. 13th and 14th rnds: (Sc in each sc across to center st of next 3-sc group, make 3 sc in center sc) twice. 15th and 16th rnds: Same as 3rd rnd. Sl st in next sc. Break off.

FLOWER (Make 3) ... With Black, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st in 1st sc made. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-2 with sl st in 1st sc made. 3rd rnd: Ch 1, in each ch-2 sp make sc, dc and sc. Join. 4th rnd: Ch 2, * insert hook from back of work between next sc and dc, push it out between dc and following sc, thread over and draw loop through, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 5. Repeat from * around. 5th rnd: In each ch-5 loop make sc, dc, tr, dc and sc. Join and break off.

LEAF (Make 9) ... With Black, ch 8. Work sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, sc in next 2 ch. Break off.

Make 2 small horizontal tucks at center back (shorter area between points). Make similar tucks at each side of front. Sew a Flower and 3 Leaves over each set of tucks. Sew a bead in center of each Flower.

BAG

BAG PIECE ... With Turquoise, ch 71 to measure 18½ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across (70 sc). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across (70 sc). Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 12½ inches. Break off. Pin piece out to meas­ure 18 x 13½ inches and press through a damp cloth.

GUSSET (Make 2) ... With Turquoise, ch 16. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; then, working along opposite side of start­ing chain, make sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across to 3-sc group, make 2 sc in each st of the 3-sc group, sc in each remaining sc. Break off.

Fold Bag Piece in half. Pin a Gusset between edges of Bag Piece, having rounded end of Gusset at fold of Bag Piece. Fasten by working sc through both thick­nesses all around. Finish other end in same way.

TAB ... With Turquoise, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 9 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: (Sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc) 3 times. 3rd to 9th rnds incl: (Sc in each sc to center st of 3-sc group, make 3 sc in center sc) 3 times. 10th rnd: Sc in each sc to the 3-sc group, ch 10, skip the 3-sc group, sc in next sc and complete rnd as before. 11th rnd: Sc in each sc around making 11 sc over the ch-10 loop. Break off. With wrong sides facing, place the top edge of Tab along center of top edge of Bag Piece. Join them by working sc through both thicknesses. Ch 1, turn and work sl st in each sc. Break off.

FLOWER (Make 3) ... Same as Flower on Hat.

LEAF (Make 6) ... Same as Leaf on Hat. Sew Flowers and Leaves in a triangle on Tab. Sew a bead in center of each flower. Cover the corset steel with felt and sew on the inside of Bag about 1 inch down from back edge. Line Bag and Tab with felt. Cut a piece of felt about 2¾x 5 inches. Roll tightly and tack. With Turquoise make a 5-inch chain. Wind this chain around center of felt roll, then fasten to front of Bag to correspond with loop on Tab.

HANDLE ... With Turquoise ch 2. 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: Sc in each sc around. Re­peat 2nd rnd until piece measures 13 inches. Break off. Fasten an end of Handle to top edge of each Gusset.
