Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.—1 ball of White or Ecru, or 2 balls of any color. or
J. & P. Coats—1 ball of White, Ecru, or any color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10 or 11.

Gauge: 5 bls or small sps make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

Completed doily measures about 9 x 14 inches across center.

Start at narrow end; ch 15. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across (13 d c, counting turning ch as 1 d c—4 bls). Ch 8, turn. 2nd row: D c in 4th ch from hook and in next 4 ch, d c in next d c (2 bls increased); ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c (a small sp); ch 5, skip 5 d c, d c in next d c (a long sp). Ch 2, skip 2 d c, foundation d c in top st of turning ch—make a foundation d c as follows: Thread over, insert hook in st and draw loop through; thread over and draw through 1 loop (1 ch st made, to be used as a foundation st for next d c); complete d c as before. Make 5 more foundation d c and 1 d c in the usual way (2 bls increased). Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: D c in 4th ch from hook and in next ch, d c in next d c (a bl increased); ch 5, skip 5 d c, d c in next d c (a long sp); ch 5, skip next small sp and 2 ch of next long sp, d c in next ch (another long sp); ch 5, skip remaining half of long sp below and the next small sp, d c in next d c (a long sp). Make a long sp over next 2 bls, making a foundation d c in top st of turning ch; inc. a bl by making 2 more foundation d c and 1 d c in the usual way. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: Inc. a bl as before; make a long sp over next bl below and 1st half of next long sp; a long sp over remaining half of same long sp and the 1st half of next long sp, ending with d c in 3rd ch of 2nd long sp on previous row, d c in next 2 ch of 2nd half of 2nd long sp, d c in d c (a bl); d c in next 3 ch of next long sp (2 bls); long sp over last half of 3rd and 1st half of 4th long sps; long sp over remaining half of 4th long sp and next bl, ending with a foundation d c; inc. a bl. Ch 5, turn. 5th row: Inc. a bl, ch 5, d c in 3rd st of long sp below, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next d c (small sp); d c in next 3 ch of long sp (a bl); 1 small sp, 2 bls, 1 small sp, 1 bl, 1 small sp, 1 long sp, inc. 1 bl.
