Milward's steel crochet hook No. 13.

Completed doily measures about 10½ x 13½ inches across center. Center of doily is made of 3 individual motifs joined while working.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 10, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 6, 19 d tr in ring, with ch-1 between. Join to 5th st of ch-6. 2nd rnd: * S c in next sp, ch 5. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st s c made (20 loops). 3rd rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, s c in same loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work 1st 2 rnds as for 1st motif. 3rd rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, s c in same loop, ch 5, s c in next loop, ch 2, tr in a loop of 1st motif, ch 2, s c in next loop on 2nd motif, * ch 2, s c in next loop on 1st motif, ch 2, s c in next loop on 2nd motif. Repeat from * 3 more times, ch 2, tr in next loop on 1st motif, ch 2, s c back in next loop on 2nd motif and complete rnd as for 1st motif.

THIRD MOTIF…  Join to 2nd motif on 3rd rnd, leaving 4 loops free between joinings on each side of 2nd motif. Join; do not break off, but sl st to top of next loop and work around all 3 motifs as follows:

1st rnd: S c in same loop, * ch 5, tr in tr-sp at next joining, ch 5, tr in same sp; (ch 5, s c in next free ch-5 loop) 4 times. Repeat from * once more; make 10 more ch-5 loops, ch 5, tr in next tr-sp, and continue thus around, working other half to correspond and ending rnd with sl st in 1st s c made. 2nd rnd: Sl st in each of 1st 2 ch of next loop (before tr), s c in loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around; join. 3rd rnd: Sl st in next 2 ch, s c in loop, ch 10 (to count as d tr and ch-5), * d tr in next loop, ch 5. Repeat from * around. Join to 5th ch of ch-10. 4th rnd: S c in next sp, ch 6 (to count as d c and ch-3), d c, ch 3 and d c in same sp; in each of next 9 sps make 3 d c with ch-3 between. In each of following 9 sps (at curve) make d c, ch 3, tr, ch 3, tr, ch 3 and d c. In each of next 13 sps make 3 d c with ch-3 between. In each of next 9 sps (at curve) make d c, ch 3, tr, ch 3, tr, ch 3 and d c. In each of remaining 3 sps make 3 d c with ch-3 between. Join to 3rd st of ch-6 first made. 5th rnd: * S c in next sp, ch 3, s c in following sp, skip 2 d c; in next sp make s c, ch 3, 2 tr, ch 3 and s c (a petal); ch 3, 2 tr in next d c, ch 3; in next sp make s c, ch 3, 2 tr, ch 3 and s c; skip 2 d c. Repeat from * 4 more times. ** Ch 3, s c in next ch-3 sp, s c in following sp (between tr's) and complete 3 petals in this sp, s c in next sp. Repeat from ** 8 more times, ch 3, skip 2 d c. *** S c in next sp and complete a petal, ch 3, 2 tr in next d c, ch 3, s c in next sp and complete a petal; skip 2 d c, s c in next sp, ch 3, s c in next sp, skip 2 d c.
