MATERIALS:
For best results use—
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 50:
Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.—3 balls of White or Ecru, or 5 balls or of any color.
J. & P. Coats—3 balls of White, Ecru, or any color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12.

Completed doily measures about 15 inches in diameter.

Gauge: 6 sps make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at bottom of chart, ch 51. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across (49 d c, counting turning ch—16 bls). Ch 11, turn. 2nd row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in next 7 ch (3 bls increased); d c in d c, * ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c (1 sp made). Repeat from * 15 more times (16 sps). Then make a foundation d c as follows: Thread over, insert hook in top st of turning ch and draw a loop through; thread over and draw through 1 loop (1 ch st made, to be used as a foundation st for next d c); complete d c in usual manner. Make 7 more foundation d c and 1 d c in usual way (3 bls increased). Ch 8, turn. 3rd row: Make 2 bls over turning ch-8 as before; 3 sps over next 3 bls, sp over sp across, 3 sps over last 3 bls; then inc. 2 bls at end of row. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: Make 1 bl over turning ch-5, 2 sps over next 2 bls, 3 sps over next 3 sps, * 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c (1 bl made). Repeat from * 15 more times (16 bls); make 5 sps. Inc. 1 bl at end of row. Now follow chart until 7 rows are made. Ch 23 to turn. 8th row: Inc. 7 bls along turning ch, work across, increasing 7 bls at end of row. Ch 8, turn. Now follow chart until 54 rows are made, increasing additional bls as before—make ch 3 to turn at end of row when there is no increase or decrease bl. 55th row: Sl st in each st of 1st bl (1 bl decreased); follow chart across row to within 1 bl from end, turn (1 bl decreased). Follow chart to top, thus completing doily. Fasten off.
