American Thread Company "Dawn" Shetland Floss.
9 Balls #1667 Scarlet or any Color desired.
Bone Crochet Hook #2 or 3
Gauge
12 d c = 2 inches; 6 rows = 2 inches
Length of Cape—20 inches from neck.
Ch 60, (about 11 inches), 1 d c in 3rd st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining st, ch 3, turn and work 2 more rows even. (Ch 3 counts as 1 d c, skip the 1st d c at beginning of row).
4th Row. Ch 3, 11 d c (front) * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * twice, 2 d c in next st, (shoulder) 1 d c in each of the next 20 sts (back). Repeat between * 4 times, (shoulder) work even to end of row, ch 3 turn.
5th Row. Ch 3, 12 d c * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, * 1 d c in each of the next 22 sts, repeat between * for other shoulder and work even to end of row.
6th Row. 14 sts in each front, 5 sts between increasing points of shoulders, 24 sts across back.
7th Row. 15 sts in each front, 7 sts between increasing points of shoulders, 26 sts across back. Continue in same manner, increasing at shoulders each row until there are 2 each front, 17 sts between increasing points and 36 sts across back. The remainder of cape is worked in star stitch.
1st Row. Ch 3, pick up the 2nd and 1st st of ch and 1st and 2nd d c keeping all loops on needle, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, (the single loop which is formed by the ch 1 is termed the eye of the st.) * next st, pick up the eye, side of star, the last d c picked up by previous star st, and the next d c, yarn over, pull through all loops, ch 1 and repeat from * across row.
2nd Row. Ch 2, pick up the 1st ch, eye of st just made, side of star in previous row, eye of next star st in previous row, yarn over, pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, * pick up the eye and side of star st just made, side of star st and next eye of previous row, yarn over, pull through all loops on needle, ch 1 and repeat from * across row. Repeat 2nd row until cape measures 20 inches or is the length desired.
HOOD. Ch 43 (about 8 inches) pick up the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th st from hook, yarn over, and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, * pick up the eye, side of star st, next 2 sts of ch, yarn over, pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * to end of ch. Work should measure about 7 inches, ch 2, turn and continue rows of star sts until work measures 15 inches, do not break yarn.
Across one long side, work 1 row of s c and begin loop st trim.
* Pass yarn over index finger, insert in next st, draw up loop getting yarn from under finger, take loop off finger, let it fall on right side of work and complete single crochet, repeat from * to end of row.
2nd Row. Work same as 1st row letting the loop fall on wrong side of work before completing s c. Repeat these 2 rows and break yarn.
Fold hood in half, sew seam and sew hood to cape placing any fullness there may be in back of hood. Finish cape with buttons and loops.
