MATERIALS REQUIRED
American Thread Company "Dawn" Germantown Wool.
3—½ oz. Balls, White or Colors, about 2 yds. of Black and a small piece of Red.
1 Steel Crochet Hook #3
Loop Stitch * Pass yarn over index finger, insert hook through next st and draw loop getting yarn from under finger, take loop off finger, let it fall on right side of work and complete the single crochet, repeat from *.
The rows with loops will be referred to as loop st row, and following row as s c row.
BODY. Ch 3, join to from a ring and work 6 loops into ring, join, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. 1 s c in each loop st, join, ch 1, turn.
3rd Row. 2 loops in each st (12 loops) and work 1 s c in each loop.
5th Row. 2 loops in each st (24 loops) and work 1 s c in each loop.
7th Row. * 2 loops in 1st stitch, 1 loop in next stitch, repeat from * all around (36 loops) and work 1 s c in each loop.
Continue working 1 row of 36 loops and 1 row of 36 s c until there are 12 rows of loops. Work 4 rows of s c decreasing at regular intervals until there are 28 s c. This is the neck.
Next row begins the head, 1 loop in each st, continue as for body until there are 7 rows of 28 loops. Pack with Kapok and close the head by taking up a stitch on the hook as for a s c but do not work off until there are 4 sts on hook. Pull up tightly and fasten.
LEGS. Ch 3, join to form a ring and work 2 loops in each st of ch then work 1 row of s c.
3rd Row. 2 loops in 1st stitch, 1 loop in 2nd and 3rd st, 2 loops in 4th st, 1 loop each in 5th and 6th st. (8 loops.) Work 1 row of s c.
5th Row. 1 loop st in each s c then work 1 row of s c. Repeat the last 2 rows and fasten. Work 4 more sections (one is for the tail) and pack with kapok.
EARS. Ch 4, turn and work 3 loops on ch, ch 1, turn and work 1 s c in each st, Ch 1, turn.
3rd Row. 2 loops in 1st st, 1 loop in next st, 2 loops in 3rd st, ch 1, turn and work a row of s c, ch 1, turn.
5th Row. 2 loops in 1st st, 1 loop each in 2nd, 3rd and 4th st, 2 loops in 5th st, ch 1, turn and work a row of s c, ch 1, turn.
7th Row. 2 loops in 1st st, 1 loop in each of the next 5 sts, 2 loops in next st, ch 1, turn and work a row of s c. Work a second ear and sew in place on the 2nd row of loops from the top of head.
NOSE. Ch 3, join to form a ring and s c around, working 2 s c in every 3rd st until there are 18 s c in all.
Pack with kapok and draw together. Embroider nostrils with black and the mouth with red. Sew the nose in position. Embroider eyes with black yarn with a touch of red in corners. Tie 4 strands of black yarn at feet and tip of tail. Sew legs and tail in position.
"Dawn" Knitting Worsted may be used to make this Cuddle Dog.
