Steel Crochet Hook No. 10 or 11.
Each Square measures about 6½ inches.
105 Squares 7 x 15 are required for top of a single bed.

Ch 98, d c in 8th st from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, d c in next st, repeat from * across row, (31 meshes) ch 5, turn.

2nd Row—D c in next d c, ch 2, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in next d c, 2 d c in next mesh, d c in d c, work 23 open meshes, 1 solid mesh and 3 open meshes, ch 5, turn.

3rd Row—2 open meshes, 3 solid meshes (1 open mesh, 2 solid meshes, 15 open meshes, 2 solid meshes, 1 open mesh, 3 solid meshes, 2 open meshes, ch 5, turn.

4th Row—1 open mesh, 4 solid meshes, 1 open mesh, 2 solid meshes, 5 open meshes, 1 solid mesh, 3 open meshes, 1 solid mesh, 5 open meshes, 2 solid meshes, 1 open mesh, 4 solid meshes, 1 open mesh, ch 5, turn.

5th Row—2 open meshes, 3 solid meshes, then work a petal as follows: ch 9, turn and sl st in top of 3rd d c in 2nd row (end ch always counts as 1 d c), ch 1, turn and into ch work 2 s c, 1 s d c (s d c: thread over, insert in st and work off all loops at one time) 3 d c, 1 s d c, 2 s c. Drop loop off hook, insert hook in last d c worked in row, pull loop through and continue row, 7 open meshes, 3 solid meshes, 1 open mesh, 3 solid meshes, 7 open meshes, then work second petal as follows: ch 9, sl st in top of 3rd d c from end of 2nd row, ch 1, turn and into ch work 2 s c, 1 s d c, 3 d c, 1 s d c, 2 s c, drop loop off hook, insert hook in last d c worked in row, complete row, ch 5, turn and continue working back and forth according to diagram working petals wherever indicated, break thread.

EDGE. Beginning in 3rd mesh from corner, ch 3, d c in mesh, ch 3, 2 d c in same mesh, * skip 1 mesh, 2 d c, ch 3, 2 d c in next mesh, repeat from * to corner. In corner meshes work 2 d c, ch 3, 2 d c, ch 5, 2 d c, ch 3, 2 d c, break thread.

Work a 2nd motif in same manner working the edge to corner mesh, in corner mesh work, 2 d c, ch 3, 2 d c, ch 2, join in corner loop of 1st motif, ch 2, 2 d c in same space of 2nd motif, ch 1, join in corresponding loop of 1st motif, ch 1, 2 d c in same space of 2nd motif, * skip 1 mesh, 2 d c in next mesh, ch 1, join to corresponding loop of 1st motif, ch 1, 2 d c in same space of 2nd motif, repeat from * to corner, joining corner loops in same manner as 1st corner, finish row same as 1st motif, break thread. Work 103 more squares joining in same manner.

SCALLOP. Ch 86, d c in 8th st from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, d c in next st, repeat from * across row, (27 meshes) ch 5, turn.

2nd Row—Work 20 open meshes, 2 solid meshes, 6 open meshes, ch 2, d tr c (3 times over needle) in same space, (an increase) ch 5, turn.

Continue in same manner working up and down according to diagram having one complete scallop for each motif. Work scallop to fit one side. To decrease a mesh at beginning of row, sl st across 1st mesh.

EDGE. Join thread on wrong side of corner mesh at side of scallop, work 3 s c in each mesh and 6 s c in each corner mesh. Do not work s c across top of scallop, ch 3, turn.
