To Make Spread. Cut a straight piece of material the length of top of bed and 30½ inches wide, this allows ½ inch for hem. If pillow extension is desired allow 6 to 8 inches at top. Hem all sides using "Star Twist." Sew the crochet strips to top as illustrated leaving the shells free. Applique initial motif in place. Cut out material underneath the motif leaving about ½ inch of material to turn under. Sew the turned under edge securely.

Flounce. Sides and foot piece of flounce are made separately. Measure the sides and foot of bed, then double the amount for fullness. Cut width the size desired allowing for ruffle. Hem each edge with "Star Twist" Mercerized Sewing Thread.

To Make Ruffle. Cut material 6 inches wide. Make a narrow hem on each side. About ½ inch from top, make 2 rows of shirring for heading. Attach ruffle to flounce. Shirr the top of flounce and sew to crocheted band, leaving shells free.

Pillow. For front, cut material to fit pillow allowing ½ inch for hem. For back, cut material 2½ inches longer. Cut in center and make 1¼ inch hem on each cut edge. Join back sections together at edges overlapping the hemmed edges ¾ of an inch. Finish opening with snap fasteners. Sew front and back sections together. Make ruffle same as for spread and attach it to all sides.

To Make Spread From Curtains. Make the top the same as with material. Cut flounce the desired length and width including the finished ruffle and sew to top section of spread.
