Towel Edging & Insertion Pattern #6960

MATERIALS REQUIRED.—1 ball Royal Society Crochet Cotton, White, size 5.

INSERTION

First Row.— Ch. 19, skip 6, 1 dc., into the next, ch. 2, skip 2, 1 dc., ch. 2, skip 2, 1 dc., and so on until 5 dc. are made. Turn.

Second Row.—Ch. 3, skip 1, 15 dc., one into each. Turn.

Third Row.—Ch. 4, skip 3, 1 dc. into the next dc. of previous row. Ch. 2, skip 2, 1 dc. and so on across. Turn and repeat from the 2nd row until the desired length has been crocheted. Finish off cotton. After completing this proceed by finishing the top and bottom of band in the following way.

Fourth Row.—1 sc. into the first big hole of the long edge of band. Ch. 4, 1 sc. into the 1st dc. Ch. 4, 1 sc. into the next hole and so on across. Turn.

Fifth Row.—Ch. 3, 1 sc. into first loop. Ch. 2, 1 sc. into the next loop, ch. 2, and so on across. Finish off cotton.

Repeat fourth and fifth rows on the opposite side of band. This completes the Insertion.

EDGING

First Row.—Ch. 14, skip 6, 1 dc., into the next, ch. 2, skip 2, 1 dc., ch. 2, skip 2, 1 dc. Turn.

Second Row.—Ch. 3, skip 1, 6 dc., one into each of the previous row, ch. 2, skip 2 of ch. 6, 1 dc. Turn.

Third Row.—Ch. 4, 1 dc. into the 1st dc. of previous row, ch. 2, skip 2, 1 dc., ch. 2, skip 2, 1 dc. Turn and repeat from second row until the desired length has been crocheted. Finish off cotton and proceed to finish by adding the following picot edge.

Fourth Row.—Catch with sc. into the first ch. of the long edge, ch. 6, 1 sc. into the first hole. Ch. 6, 1 sc. into the next hole, and so on all across. Turn.

Fifth Row.—4 sc. into the first big loop, ch. 4, catch back into the first ch. to form picot, 4 sc. into the same loop and so on all across.

Make a narrow hem on end of towel. Baste edging in place and finish by buttonholing the two together. Baste insertion in place and buttonhole both edges to towel with the crochet cotton. Cut out towel from underneath insertion. Make insertion for one end only, and edging for both ends.
