Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball each of Black and White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7.
15 inches of wire for stems.
Centers (Make 3). With White, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 s c in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 s c in each s c around. 3rd rnd: * 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 2 s c. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: * 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 3 s c. Repeat from * around. 5th to 8th rnds incl: S c in each s c around. Stuff this piece firmly with cotton. Then work s c in every other s c until opening is entirely closed. Fasten and break off.
Petals (Make 9). With Black, ch 3. 1st row: 2 s c in 2nd ch from hook, 2 s c in next ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 2 s c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of next 6 s c, 2 s c in next s c. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 3 s c, 2 s c in each of next 2 s c, s c in each of next 3 s c, 2 s c in next s c. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: S c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: S c in each of next 5 s c, 2 s c in each of next 4 s c, s c in each of next 5 s c. Ch 1, turn. 7th row: Same as 5th row. 8th row: S c in each s c across. Do not break off, but sl st in end st of each row around 2 sides of piece. Fasten and break off, leaving a 6-inch length of thread with which to fasten petal to center.
Arrange 3 petals around center, as in illustration, and sew in place.
Leaves (Make 3). With White, ch 20, skip 1 ch, s c in next ch, half d c in next ch, d c in next ch, tr in each of next 13 ch, d c in next ch, half d c in next ch, 3 s c in last ch, half d c in 1st st on other side of foundation chain, d c in next st, tr in each of next 13 sts, d c in next st, half d c in next st, sl st in last st. Fasten and break off.
Cut wire into three 5-inch lengths, and cover by winding White thread closely around wire, being sure to fasten ends securely. Fasten a leaf to each wire by sewing wire to wrong side of leaf, from point to point. Arrange leaves and fasten flowers to stems as in illustration.
