Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70, 2 balls of Blue … Scraps of Green Pearl Cotton … Yellow Stamens … Steel Crochet Hooks No. 10 and No. 14.

Doily measures 15 inches in diameter

Starting at center with White and No. 10 hook, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 25 dc in ring. Join to top of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, dc in first sc. 3rd rnd: * Ch 6, sc in next loop. Re­peat from * around, ending with ch 3, dc in dc. 4th rnd: * Ch 7, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, tr in dc. 5th rnd: * Ch 9, sc in 5th ch from hook (picot made); ch 4, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4, tr in tr. Ch 5, turn. 6th rnd: Sl st in last tr made, turn, sl st in ch-5 loop, ch 4, in same loop make 2 tr, ch 3 and 3 tr; * ch 5, in next picot make 3 tr, ch 3 and 3 tr (shell made). Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in 4th ch of ch-4. 7th rnd: Sl st to sp of next shell, ch 4, in same sp make 2 tr, ch 3 and 3 tr (shell made over shell); * ch 7, shell in sp of next shell. Re­peat from * around. Join. 8th, 9th and 10th rnds: Same as last rnd, hav­ing 1 ch more between shells on each rnd. 11th rnd: Same as last rnd, having 12 ch between shells. 12th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 7, sc in next sp, ch 7. Repeat from * around. Join. 13th rnd: * Shell over shell, ch 7, tr in next sc, ch 7. Repeat from * around. Join. 14th rnd: Sl st to sp of next shell, ch 4, in same sp make 2 tr, ch 5 and 3 tr; * ch 9, sc in next tr, ch 9, in sp of next shell make 3 tr, ch 5 and 3 tr. Repeat from * around. Join. 15th rnd: Sl st to sp of next shell, ch 5, 12 d tr in same sp, * ch 15, 13 d tr in sp of next shell. Repeat from * around. Now complete scallops individually as follows:

FIRST SCALLOP … 1st row: (In next sp make sc, ch 1, dc, ch 1 and sc) 12 times. Ch 8, turn. 2nd row: (D tr between next 2 sc, ch 3) 11 times; d tr in next sc. Turn. 3rd row: In each sp across make sc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, and sc (shell made); ch 5, sl st in top of first d tr on next scallop.

SECOND SCALLOP … 1st row: Repeat first row of First Scallop. 2nd row: (D tr between next 2 sc, ch 3) 11 times; sl st in top of next ch. Turn. 3rd row: Repeat 3rd row of First Scal­lop. Complete other Scallops to corre­spond. Join last shell of last scallop to first shell made.

Next rnd: Sl st to center dc of 2nd shell on First Scallop, sc in same place, * ch 20, skip 2 shells, sc in center dc of next shell. Repeat from * around. Join. Following rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make 3 dc in same loop, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made); * ch 18, make a 4-dc cluster in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

BLUE BELL (Make 13) … Start­ing at center with Blue and No. 14 hook, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4, 14 tr in ring. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, tr in same place as sl st, 2 tr in next tr, * tr in next tr, 2 tr in next 2 tr. Repeat from * around, ending with tr in last tr. Join. 3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, sc in each tr around (25 sc). Join. 4th rnd: Ch 4, tr in same sc as sl st, 2 tr in each sc around. Join.

FIRST PETAL … 1st row: Ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make tr in next 2 tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made); tr in next 3 tr, cluster over next 3 tr. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make 2 tr in tip of next cluster, tr in next 3 tr, 2 tr in tip of next clus­ter, thread over and complete a cluster; ch 4, turn, sl st at base of cluster, ch 4, sl st in next 2 tr on Blue Bell, ch 4, and work next petal as for First Petal until 5 petals are completed. Join and break off.

LEAF AND STEM (Make 13) … Using Green and No. 10 hook, ch 17, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 6 ch, (ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 6 ch, sl st in same ch as last sc on starting chain) twice; ch 9. Break off.

Sew stems around doily. Sew stamens to flowers. Apply sizing to flowers to preserve shape. Sew flowers in place.
