MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70, 1 ball of Shaded Pink and 1 ball of Shaded Yellow. Scraps of Dark Brown Pearl Cotton … Steel Crochet Hooks No. 10 and No. 14 … J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Six Strand Embroidery Floss, 1 skein of Colonial Brown … A piece of pink organdy, 12 x 18 inches.
APPLE BLOSSOM (Make 12) … Starting at center with Pink and No. 14 hook, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 25 sc in ring. Join.
Now work petals individually as follows.
FIRST PETAL … 1st row: 2 sc in next 5 sc. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 7th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Do not turn at end of 7th row.
SECOND PETAL … Sl st in end sc of each row. Next row: 2 sc in next 5 sc on center. Ch 1, turn. Work as for First Petal. Complete other petals to correspond.
Make a narrow hem around outer edge of organdy. Using 3 strands of Embroidery Floss, embroider blanket stitch around outer edge of Mat. Embroider a French knot between each bar of blanket stitch.
STEM … Using Brown Pearl Cotton double and No. 10 hook make a chain 6 inches long, make 6 lengths of chain, each 3 inches long, and 5 lengths, each 4 inches long.
Sew these chains to Mat, to form a branch as shown in illustration. Sew an Apple Blossom to end of each stem.
With Yellow make a chain 2 inches long, sew to center of Apple Blossom, making 5 loops (for stamens). Complete all flowers in this manner. Starch lightly and press.
