Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70, 2 balls of Blue … J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cot­ton, Size 5:1 ball of Orange … Scraps of Blue … Steel Crochet Hooks No. 10 and No. 14.

Doily measures 12½ inches in diameter

Starting at center with White and No. 10 hook, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 27 dc in ring. Join. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 3rd, 4th and 5th rnds: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join. 6th rnd: Same as last rnd, making ch-4 loops instead of ch-3. 7th and 8th rnds: Same as last rnd, making ch-5 loops instead of ch-4. 9th rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, ch 6, tr tr in next loop, ch 6, sc in top of tr tr (picot made), * ch 11, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr tr make tr tr in next 2 loops, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (joint tr tr made); ch 6, sc in top of joint tr tr (another picot made). Repeat from * around. Join. 10th rnd: Sl st to center of next picot, ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr make 4 d tr in same loop, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made); * ch 6, sc in tip of cluster, ch 12, make a 5-d tr cluster in next picot loop. Repeat from * around. Join. 13th rnd: Sl st in next sp, sc in same sp, * (ch 4, sc in next sp) 9 times; 7 sc in each of the next 2 sps, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around. Join. 14th rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 4, sc in next loop) 8 times; ch 10, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. ASTER (Make 7) … Starting at center with Blue Tatting-Crochet, and No. 14 hook, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 24 sc in ring. Sl st in first sc. 2nd rnd: * Ch 14, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sc in next 2 sc on ring (one petal completed). Repeat from * around (12 petals). 3rd rnd: * Work­ing over 2 strands of Light Blue Pearl Cotton, sc in each ch of next petal, 5 sc in last ch; working over the 2 strands as before and over the sc's of petal make sc at base of each sc of petal, skip 1 sc on ring, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Sl st in first sc. Break off.

CENTER … Starting at center with Orange, ch 2. 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in back loop of each sc. 3rd rnd: * Sc in back loop of next sc, 2 sc in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * around. 4th and 5th rnds: Sc in back loop of each sc around. Sl st in next sc. Break off. Stuff center with cotton batting or scraps of thread and sew neatly in place. Sew Asters in place as in illustration.
