MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN," Art. A.64
: 1 ball each of No. 43 Dk. Yellow and No. 131 Fudge Brown; and
CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. B.4, Size 30: 1 ball of White.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 7 and No. 10.
½ yard millinery wire. ... 2 small snap fasteners. ... Long organdy pantalettes. ... A doll 7 ½ inches tall; waist 4 ¾ inches.

DRESS—Skirt ... Starting at top with Yellow and No. 7 hook, make a chain to reach loosely around doll's waist. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, 2 dc in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd to 12th rows incl: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 12th row. Sew up back seam, leaving 1 inch open at top.

FRINGE ... With Fudge Brown make a chain to reach around bottom of Skirt, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, draw loop through ch and loop on hook, draw loop on hook out to measure ¾ inch (loop st made), retaining all loop sts on hook insert hook in next ch, draw loop through, thread over and draw through loop on hook, then draw loop out to same height as previous loop st. Make a loop st in each ch across. Break off. Sew ends of chain together. Sew Fringe around edge of skirt, scalloping it evenly. Cut loops to make fringe.

TRIM ... With Brown, ch 10, sl st in 10th ch from hook, (ch 10, sl st in same ch) twice. Break off. Sew to a point of scallop. Make necessary number of pieces and sew a piece to each point.

POCKET (Make 2) ... Starting at top with Yellow, ch 17. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, half dc in next 2 ch, dc in next 10 ch, half dc in next 2 ch, sc in next ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd to 8th rows incl: Sc in each sc across, decreasing 1 sc at both ends of each row—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Ch 1, turn. Break off at end of 8th row. With Fudge Brown, ch 17, work as for Pocket until 2 rows have been completed. Break off. Sew to top of pocket. Make a piece of fringe to reach around 3 sides of pocket. Sew in place. Sew pocket to skirt.

BODICE ... Using No. 10 hook, attach White to first st on starting chain of skirt, sc in same place, * ch 3, sc in next st. Repeat from * across. 2nd to 6th rows incl: Sc in first loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn.

To Shape Back: 1st row: Sc in first loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) 5 times. Ch 3, turn. Work in pattern over these sts only for 8 more rows.

To Shape Shoulder: Sc in first loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) twice. Break off. Attach thread to other side of last complete row and work other side of back the same way.

FRONT ... Leaving 3 loops free for underarm, attach thread to next loop on last complete row of Bodice and work in pattern to within last 3 loops. Continue to work in pattern until 9 rows have been completed.

To Shape Shoulder: Sc in first loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) twice. Break off. Attach thread to opposite end of row and work over first 3 loops. Break off. Sew up shoulder seams.

SLEEVE ... 1st rnd: Attach thread to center loop at underarm, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around armhole. 2nd to 12th rnds incl: * Ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off at end of 12th rnd. Complete other sleeve the same way.

Sew snap fasteners to back opening. With Brown make a chain 8 inches long. Tie around waist.

BOLERO ... Starting at bottom with Yellow and No. 7 hook, ch 33. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

To Shape Front: 6th row: Sc in first 6 sc. Ch 1, turn. 7th to 10th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

To Shape Shoulder: Sc in first 3 sc. Break off. Attach thread to end of last complete row and work other front the same way.

BACK ... 1st row: Leaving 3 sc free on last complete row attach thread to next sc, sc in each sc across to within last 3 sc. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

To Shape Shoulders: Sc in first 3 sc. Break off. Attach thread to other end of row and sc in last 3 sc. Break off.

Sew up shoulder seams. With Yellow, sc closely around armhole openings and neck. With Brown make a piece of fringe 4 inches long. Sew to bottom of bolero.

TRIM (Make 2) ... With Brown, ch 4, 4 dc in 4th ch from hook. Break off. Sew a piece to each side of Bolero, embroidering chain sts with White sewing thread.

HAT ... Starting at center with Brown, ch 2. 1st rnd: 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. 5th to 12th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 13th rnd: 2 sc in each is around. 14th to 8th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. Break off at end of 18th rnd.

With White and No. 10 hook, ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same ch, (ch 3, dc in same ch, ch 3, sl st in same ch) 4 times. Join and break off. Sew to front of hat with Yellow French knot. Attach Brown to brim of hat and make a chain 4 inches long. Break off. Make a chain the same way on other side.

PANTIES ... Cut organdy panties knee length. Make a narrow hem around each leg. 1st rnd: Attach White to leg, sc closely around. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, dc in back loop of next sc, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, dc in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * around. Join. 3rd and 4th rnds: Ch 4, * dc in back loop of next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join.

FIRST RUFFLE ... 1st rnd: Attach thread to free loop of any sc, in each sc around make (sc, ch 3) twice. Join. 2nd rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

SECOND RUFFLE ... Attach thread to free loop of any dc on next rnd, in each st (dc or sp) around, make (sc, ch 3) twice. Join. 2nd rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd of First Ruffle. Make 2 more ruffles the same way. Complete other leg to correspond.

LASSO ... Wind Brown thread tightly around millinery wire. Loop one end to form a circle 4 inches in diameter. Attach other end to doll's hand.
