MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN," Art. A.64
: 3 balls of No. 49-A Killarney; and
CHADWICK'S RED HEART SOCK AND SWEATER YARN, 3 Ply, Shrink-and-Stretch-Resist Finish, Art. E.255: 2 skeins (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-out Skeins) of No. 909 Scarlet and 1 skein of No. 1 White; and
A few yards of White Mercerized Crochet.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 7 and No. 10.
Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No. 4.
3 snap fasteners. ... Small amount of cotton for muff. ... A doll 11 inches tall; chest 5 ½ inches.

SKIRT ... Starting at waist with Killarney and No. 7 hook, ch 39. 1st row: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in first dc, * dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc (1 dc increased). Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in each dc, increasing 15 dc evenly across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 3rd row until Skirt measures 6 ½ inches. Break off. Sew up back seam, leaving 1 ¾ inches free at waist for back opening.

BODICE ... Starting at back with Killarney, ch 20. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 11th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

To Shape Armhole: 1st row: Sc in first 9 sc. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1. turn. 3rd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 11, turn.

Now work front as follows: 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc to within last 2 sc, work off last 2 sc as 1 sc (1 sc decreased at neck edge). Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Dec 1 sc, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 4th to 8th rows incl: Dec 1 sc at neck edge on each row (11 sc on last row). Now work sc rows, increasing 1 sc at neck edge on every row until there are 19 sc on row, ending at waist edge. Work other armhole and other side of back to correspond. Break off.

Attach Killarney to end of first row on neck edge, sc in end st of each row around neck, thus joining shoulders. Break off. Sew Bodice to Skirt.

ARMHOLE RUFFLE ... 1st rnd: With No. 10 hook, attach White Mercerized Crochet to any st on armhole, in same st make sc, ch 3 and sc; * ch 3, in next st make sc, ch 3 and sc. Repeat from * around. 2nd to 8th rnds incl: * Ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off at end of 8th rnd. Complete other armhole the same way.

NECK RUFFLE ... 1st row: Attach White Mercerized Crochet to back opening and work across as for first rnd of Armhole Ruffle. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. Break off.

Sew snap fasteners to back opening.

SASH ... With White yarn and plastic crochet hook, make a chain 12 inches long. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off.

HAT ... Starting at center with Killarney, ch 2. 1st rnd: 12 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: * Ch 3, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 3rd and 4th rnds: * Ch 4, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. 5th and 6th rnds: * Ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. 7th, 8th and 9th rnds: * Ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. 10th rnd: 7 sc in each loop around. Join and break off.

TASSEL ... Cut 3 strands of Killarney each 3 inches long. Double these strands to form a loop. Insert hook in center sc on any loop on hat, draw loop through. Draw loose ends through loop and pull up tightly to form knot. Make 3 more Tassels in center of next 3 loops on hat (this is back). Cut tassels evenly. With Killarney make a chain 14 inches long, slip chain through a loop on each side of hat and tie in a bow under chin.

CAPE ... Starting at neck with Scarlet yarn and plastic crochet hook, ch 14. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 2 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in first sc, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: 2 sc in first sc, * sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across (53 sc). Ch 1, turn. 5th row: 2 sc in first sc, * dec 2 sc—to dec 2 sc, work off 3 sc as 1 sc—3 sc in next sc (2 sc increased). Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: 3 sc in first sc, * dec 2 sc, 5 sc in next sc (4 sc increased). Repeat from * across, ending with 3 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 7th and 8th rows: 2 sc in first sc, * sc in next sc, dec 2 sc, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Drop Scarlet at end of 8th row. 9th row: Attach White to first sc and work as for 7th row. 10th row: Repeat 7th row. Drop White, pick up Scarlet. 11th row: Repeat 7th row. 12th row: 3 sc in first sc, * sc in next sc, dec 2 sc, sc in next sc, 5 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 13th and 14th rows: 2 sc in first sc, * sc in each sc to within 1 sc at base of next point, dec 2 sc, sc in each sc to center sc of next point, 3 sc in center sc. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Drop Scarlet, pick up White at end of 14th row. 15th and 16th rows: Work as for 13th row. Drop White and pick up Scarlet at end of 16th row. 17th row: Work as for 13th row. 18th row: 3 sc in first sc, * sc in each sc to within 1 sc at base of next point, dec 2 sc, sc in each sc to center sc of next point, 5 sc in center sc. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Work in pattern (13th to 18th rows incl) until 3 Scarlet rows following 5th White strip have been made. Break off.

HOOD ... Work as for Cape until 14 rows have been made. Ch 1, turn. 15th row: Sc in first sc, * ch 2, sc in center sc of next point. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last sc. Break off. Join Hood and Cape as follows: With Scarlet make a chain 5 inches long for tie, then place neck edge of Cape and Hood together and, working through both thicknesses, sc closely across neck edge, then make another chain 5 inches long. Break off. With Scarlet make 12 tassels and sew one to base of each White point on 4th White strip.

MUFF ... Starting at narrow end with Scarlet, ch 16. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 5 ¼ inches. Break off. Sew narrow ends together. Attach Scarlet to edge and sc closely around, decreasing evenly until opening is closed. Stuff Muff with cotton. Close other end the same way, making a small loop at center to fit doll's arm.
