COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E. 234 (4 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 14 skeins of No. 225 Lt. Yellow; and

COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E. 232 (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 3 skeins each of No. 12 Black and No. 909 Scarlet.

Afghan Hook No. 8.

Afghan measures 50 x 72 inches ... Each motif measures 6¾ inches square

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch; 3 rows = 1 inch.

MOTIF (Make 70) ... With Yellow ch 25 to measure 6¼ inches. Work in afghan st until piece is absolutely square (there should be 19 rows). Do not break off. Sc around outer edge.

EMBROIDERY ... Examine diagram for making cross sts over afghan st. Being sure to have starting chain at bottom of each square, with Black embroider 6 motifs following chart A and 7 motifs fol­lowing chart B; with Red embroider 6 motifs following chart C and 6 motifs following chart D.
Following diagram, with Yellow, sew motifs neatly together.

BORDER ... 1st rnd (right side): At­tach Scarlet and sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. Break off and fasten. 2nd rnd: Attach Yellow and sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. Break off and fasten. 3rd rnd: With Black repeat 2nd rnd. 4th rnd: With Yellow repeat 2nd rnd. Do not break off. Turn. 5th rnd (wrong side): Sl st in each sc around. Join. Break off and fasten. Block to measurements.
