MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. "BRILLIANT," 3 balls.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 9.

A piece of linen 3 x 9½ inches.
Tray doily measures 6 x 13½ inches.

Cut corners off linen as in illustration and make a very narrow rolled hem all around. 1st rnd: Attach thread to one corner of linen, ch 1, 3 sc in same place where thread was attached, then work sc closely over rolled edge, being careful to work 3 sc in same place at each corner. Join with sl st in 1st sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, tr in next 4 sc, * ch 3, skip 2 sc, tr in next 5 sc. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-3 with sl st to top of starting ch-4. There must be an even number of blocks. 3rd rnd: Ch 4, tr at base of ch-4, * tr in next tr, ch 3, tr in same place, tr in next 2 tr, ch 3, tr in same place, 2 tr in next st, ch 5, skip 2 tr, sc in next st, ch 5, skip 2 tr, work 2 tr in next tr. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th rnd: Ch 4, tr in next 2 sts, * (ch 5, tr in next 3 tr) twice; ch 5, sc in next 2 loops, ch 5, tr in next 3 tr. Repeat from * around. Join. 5th rnd: Ch 4, then holding back the last loop of each tr on hook work tr in next 2 sts, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), * ch 5, skip 2 ch, then holding back the last loop of each tr on hook work 3 tr cluster in next ch, ch 5, work 3 tr cluster over next 3 tr, ch 5, skip 2 ch, cluster in next ch, ch 5, cluster over next 3 tr, ch 7, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, ch 7, cluster over next 3 tr. Repeat from * around. Join. 6th rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * (ch 5, sc in next sp, ch 5, sc in top of next cluster) 4 times; (ch 5, sc in next sp) twice; ch 5, sc in top of next cluster. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, dc in 1st sc. 7th rnd: * Ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, dc in dc. 8th rnd: * Ch 7, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, tr in dc. Fasten off.
