J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Size 50:
J. & P. Coats—8 balls of White or Ecru or Clark's O.N.T.—13 balls of White or Ecru.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 12.

GAUGE: 6 sps make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at bottom of chart make a chain 25 inches long (17 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * across until there are 131 sps made. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Dc in next dc, (2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc) 8 times (8 bls over 8 sps made); (ch 2, dc in next dc) 9 times (9 sps over 9 sps made); make 3 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 13 sps, 1 bl, 25 sps, 1 bl, 25 sps, 1 bl, 13 sps, 2 bls, 3 sps, 3 bls, 9 sps, 8 bls, ch 2, skip 2 sts of turning ch, dc in next ch. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: Dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc (bl over bl made); (ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc) 7 times (7 sps over 7 bls made); make 3 bls, 5 sps, 5 bls, 1 sp, 4 bls, 11 sps, 2 bls, (2 sps, 3 bls) twice; 4 sps, 2 bls, 8 sps, 3 bls, 8 sps, 2 bls, 4 sps, (3 bls, 2 sps) twice; 2 bls, 11 sps, 4 bls, 1 sp, 5 bls, 5 sps, 3 bls, 7 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp. Ch 5, turn. Note: Chart shows one quarter of design. Starting with 4th row follow chart. To complete each row omit center sp or bl, as the case may be, and work back from center to beginning of row. When top of chart is reached, reverse chart, omit last (center) row and work back to 1st row. Do not fasten off but turn and work edging all around as follows: 1st rnd: Ch 16 (to count as dc and ch 13), holding back the last loop of each dc on hook make dc in top of last dc made, dc in next dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (2-dc cluster made), ** ch 10, 2-dc cluster over next 2 dc, * ch 10, skip next dc, 2-dc cluster over next 2 dc. Repeat from * across to last 2 sps, ch 10, dc in next dc and in center st of corner sp, working off the 2 dc as before, ch 13, dc in same place as last dc, dc in next dc, working off the 2 dc as before (this is corner loop). Repeat from ** around, ending with dc in last dc, sl st in 3rd st of starting chain. 2nd rnd: In each corner loop make 5 sc, (ch 3, 3 sc) twice, ch 3 and 5 sc; in all other loops make (3 sc, ch 3) 3 times and 3 sc, ending with sl st in 1st sc made. Fasten off.
     Starch lightly and block to measurement given.
