Clark's O.N.T.—31 balls of White or Ecru.
J. & P. Coats—31 balls of White or Ecru, or 42 balls of any color.
MILWARD'S Steel Crochet Hook No. 10 or 11.

GAUGE … Each motif measures about 4½ inches in diameter before blocking. For a tablecloth about 72 x 108 inches, make 15 x 23 motifs.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 1 very loosely, and ch 4 tightly. 1st rnd: 23 tr in the loose chain st; join with sl st to 4th st of ch-4 made tightly. 2nd rnd: * Ch 7, skip 1 tr, s c in next tr. Repeat from * around (12 loops). 3rd and 4th rnds: Sl st in next 3 ch, s c in same loop; (ch 7, s c in next loop) 11 times; ch 7, sl st in 1st s c. 5th rnd: Sl st in next 3 ch, s c in same loop; (16 tr in next loop, s c in next loop) 5 times; 16 tr in next loop, sl st in first s c made. 6th rnd: Sl st in next tr, s c in next tr, * ch 6, skip 2 tr, s c in next tr. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 6, sl st in first s c made (32 loops). 7th, 8th and 9th rnds: Sl st in next 2 ch, s c in same loop; * ch 6, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st s c. 10th rnd: Sl st to center of next loop, s c in same loop, * ch 3, 5 d c in next loop, ch 3, 2 s c in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, s c in 1st loop, sl st in 1st s c. 11th rnd: S c in same place as sl st, * ch 5, skip 2 d c of 5-d c group. In next d c make: d c, ch 5, sl st in 4th ch from hook (p); ch 1 and d c. Ch 5, s c between next 2 s c. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work 1st 10 rnds as for first motif. 11th rnd: S c in same place as last sl st, ch 5, * d c in 3rd d c of next d c-group, ch 3, sl st in corresponding p of first motif, ch 2, sl st back in 2nd ch of second motif, ch 1, d c in same place as last d c. Ch 5, s c between next 2 s c, ch 5. Repeat from * once more and complete as for first motif.
   Make necessary number of motifs, joining 2 points of each motif to 2 points of adjacent motifs, leaving 2 points free on each motif between joinings.

FILL-IN LACE … Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 4 (to count as tr), 23 tr in ring. Join to 4th st of ch-4. 2nd rnd: * Ch 7, skip 2 tr, s c in next tr. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, skip 2 tr, tr in same place as sl st was made. 3rd rnd: S c under bar of last tr, * ch 20, s c in next loop, ch 7, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 7, sl st in first s c made. 4th rnd: * 7 s c in next ch-20 loop, ch 1, sl st in free p of motif (following joining), ch 1, make 9 s c in same ch-20 loop, ch 1, sl st in next p of same motif, ch 1, 7 s c in same ch-20 loop, 3 s c in next ch-7 loop, ch 13, sl st in joining, ch 13, 3 s c in same ch-7 loop. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. Block cloth to measurements given.
