CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BIG BALL BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 20, 33 balls of White or Ecru for oblong tablecloth; 35 balls for hexagon-shaped tablecloth.
MILWARD'S Steel Crochet Hook No. 8.

GAUGE … Motif measures 4¼ inches from side to side, and 5 inches from point to opposite point. Completed oblong tablecloth, about 63 x 80 inches, requires 314 motifs. Hexagonal tablecloth, about 80 inches across center (from side to side), requires 331 motifs.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 7, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 2 d c in ring; (ch 2, 3 d c in ring) 5 times; ch 2, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, d c in next 2 d c, * ch 3, d c in next sp, ch 3, d c in next 3 d c. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, d c in next 2 d c, * (ch 3, d c in next sp) twice; ch 3, d c in next 3 d c. Repeat from * around; join. 4th rnd: Ch 3, d c in next 2 d c, * (ch 3, d c in next sp) 3 times; ch 3, d c in next 3 d c. Repeat from * around; join. 5th rnd: Ch 3, d c in next 2 d c, * 3 d c in next sp; (ch 3, d c in next sp) twice, ch 3, 3 d c in next sp, d c in next 3 d c. Join. 9th rnd: Ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), then (skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2) 4 times. * In corner sp make 3 d c with ch-2 between; ch 2, skip 1 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c (a ch-2 sp). Ch 1, d c in same place on second motif as last d c was made; ch 4, s c in next d c, ch 5, skip 1 d c, d c in next d c, ch 1, s c in corresponding sp on first motif, ch 1, d c in same place as last d c was made on second motif.    Make necessary number of motifs (see diagrams), joining adjacent sides as second motif was joined to first (whenever 3 motifs meet, join corner of third motif with an s c to corner joining of adjacent 2 motifs).
